My hair is still very short...it's roughly 1" top/sides and .5" bottom-back. I'd like to start doing right now so down the road it just becomse habit. I've read here and elsewhere about just conditioning instead of shampooing and would like to know what you guys use for this. I know everyone's hair is different but are there any agreed upon "best" ones? Any and all opinions appreciated.
Splat,
I'm not sure what benefit you'll see using this routine so early, but this is what I look for:
Any conditioner marketed for thin/flat/limp/etc hair - it's conditioner that's supposed to be light weight. I have had best results with conditioner that has a thin, "watery" consistency.
Inexpensive may also be a desired characteristic, because you will need to use more conditioner that usual.
I have tried White Rain Extra Body and a "volumizing" brand made by Suave.
I get two benefits out of using just conditioner, and I only do this routine occasionally. For one, my hair is absolutely tangle free, top to bottom and extremely smooth and silky. The other benefit is my hair stays in place, with fewer flyaways.
The down side for me is it make my hair a bit "greasier" or wet looking sooner in the day. But it does feel gooood. :-)
Oversurf,
So would you say that using a conditioner for Dry/Damaged hair would probably be too heavy for use without shampooing? Perhaps that's why Hair Religion reccomends Aussie Slip for daily conditions.
What's Aussie Slip?
There is a conditioner from Aussie called "Slip"- which is a lightweight conditioner primarily used for detangling. It is supposed to be pretty light and smooth, and Hair Religion suggests on his site that you use it for days where you condition without using shampoo. So I wonder how well it works... By the way, it's not as common as Moist or Mega, so it may be hard to find.
Probably. Too heavy and the conditioner will resist rinsing out and end up making your hair too greasy.
My hair is fine texture, very straight. Too much or too heavy of a conditioner and my hair is flat and the ponytail bands slide right off.
I think the point is that conditioner alone can be used as a very mild shampoo if the conditioner doesn't have too much gunk in it like silicone. Some people love it, others don't.
I figure it'd get me used to it. I usually wash my hair every morning with shampoo and towel dry. Today I did my first conditioner-only wash and I'm surprised to feel it's not greasy. I thought it would be. I used an Aloe-vera based conditioner. I think it's by Suave....I can't remember.

Sounds good. I'll check them out.

Cool. Tangle free is definitely something I'd like to be. When I did have LH I remember getting tangles a lot. I'll try this conditioner-only method and see how it goes. Cheers.
What are you using these days for conditioner, Oversurf.
Suave Professionals Amplifying Conditioner (says it is a Matrix
clone). It's on the thick side, but appears to be OK, nothing
outstanding.
Sounds good. Thanks.
