Hello folks,
Can anyone recommend a gentle anti-dandruff shampoo? I'm at the stage where my hair gets so dry and damaged from using shampoos that I only shampoo once a week, but using a cleansing conditioner everyday. Even after that, my hair is still a bit on the rough side. Any good recommendations for an anti-dandruff that doesn't dry out your hair too much? I have a bottle of Selsun Blue 2-in-1, but that turns my hair into a crisp.
Thanks!
Try applying nizoral to your scalp only, its easy really if you apply it to your finger ends and massage it in (it doesnt foam all that much)... that way you hair stays relatively unwashed.
Someone once mentioned that one of the side effects of nizoral is hair loss, so I would think that would turn most people off.
What Ive tried that works well is apple cider vinegar, theres no vigorus scrubbing needed and it gets the dandruff out very well, and its not harsh, so using that before a wash with gentle regular shampoo should do the trick. Also the great thing about the acv is that it only needs to be used about every 2 weeks, maybe even less, and theres also the issue of cost, ACV being much cheaper then that other stuff.
Thats great if ACV works for you, but ACV only acts as a very mild alpha hydroxy acid on your scalp... it has some small antifungal too I believe due to its acidity. However for people with real dandruff and not a simple dry scalp they need an antifungal such as the likes of ketoconazole, pyithione(?) zinc, selenium sulphide etc. Nizoral has 2% ketoconazole, there is currently nothing as effective for dandruff. There are also no ingredients in it to cause hairloss and if there where it would not be avail over the counter, so chill its fine.
Someone a while back said that warning was right on the bottle.
I have just checked my bottle of Nizorelle, including the packaging, and nowhere does it mention any risk of hair loss, so I guess it's fine to use!
I've never lost more hair from Nizoral than what usually sheds in the shower anyway (i.e., the 100 or so average follicles we all lose daily).
Ah, thank you. Well thats good to know, I cant remember who it was that orignally posted about how he had read that as a side effect right on the bottle, but oh well.
I just cant give ACV enough praise after all that its helped me out.
I use Nizoral and in my leaflet it does say that hair loss MAY occur as a result of using Nizoral, BUT.....I frequent a few hair loss forums and Nizoral (moreso 2% which is prescription, while 1% is over-the-counter) is actually one of the main ingredients of their regimens. It's pretty popular among those guys.
Please reply if you read this so I know it's been noticed!
Matt
Woops, I couldn't find a leaflet in the box?
I haven't checked the leaflet so you're right, I had mine over the counter so it's probably 1% conc.
Ok, well at least the record has been set straight.
Yea, sorry about that, Doomlord!
