Hi there guys I just want to ask a question.I have short hair around 5cm the front so I have a long way in front of me.I considered many times to leave long hair you know like Mick Jagger at his youth or to understand better like Jim Morisson. The reason it kept me back from doing this was that after being a little long they become a little mess. Also my mother and my sister(I am 18 years old) say that I won't look good, and my mother says especially that I won't look good beacuse I have big facial characteristics.Smaller grom jagger of course but they are.Now I leave them long again with the thought that in the 99% of people look great with long hair or at least not worst than they were in the past.So beacuse University await's me in one month and I don't won't to look like idiot in girls for long I want to ask how can I understan if I look nice with long hair.It depends from face shape?I don't know.I can stand the time it needs to go through the idiot phase when all your hear is up etc.but I want to know from which things can you understand if it will fit you nice or not. Thanks
It does NOT depend on face shape, it depends on how *you* think you look with long hair. In this life we make a lot of compromises for other people. If having long hair is important to you then I suggest you ignore everyone who tells you why you CAN'T have long hair (big face, short neck, pointy ears, too tall, too short, whatever). I'm a little older than you but when I started growing my hair my family also objected. But I told them that it was *important* to me and now they mostly leave me alone about it. Your family might do the same once they see that you are serious about having long hair. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
I agree with Gollan - it's how *you* feel that counts. The fact is that for the first while, it will look... not so good... but it gets better (see my progress pics down the page a bit) and you'll start to feel better about it. Just wear hats or bandanas for a while to let it grow out.
My mother and sister said the same things about me, as I used to have long hair, but I didn't really style it or look after it as I was young.
But last night I asked them if they thought it was as bad as they'd imagined, and they both said no. My mother still wants me to cut it, but doesn't bother me much since I've explained to her that I want to do it.
You have nothing to lose by growing your hair - you'll never really know what it looks or feels like until you do it. You'll probably have a good idea after about a year what it's going to look like long.
But like I said - it's not going to hurt anyone giving it a try, so if you want to do it, go for it, and enjoy it :)

It would be really helpful if you could post a picture of yourself, but nearly everyone looks good with long hair. It's really a question of how you carry yourself off as a longhair that counts, not your facial characteristics, although these can help too. If you find yourself ugly looking with short hair, there's an almost certain chance you'll look much better with long hair. But if you're already good looking with short hair, you probably won't notice a huge improvement!
I've got another 13-14 months ahead of me before my Uni days, but I advise you to grow it out if you can't live with short hair any longer like I did, you'll have nothing to lose.
About the family protests, I understand. The first day I mentioned to my mother I was growing my hair, her first reaction was angry, and don't be so stupid attitude. But the day after, she was fine with it, I guess it was a bit of a shock lol. Now she thinks it'll look great. I thought my sister was OK with the idea until about 2 months ago, she told me that she doesn't think I'll look good and look like some Scruffy student. I said I was serious about growing my hair, and since then, she's been begging me to borrow some of my leave in conditioners. She's growing out her bangs too so we're in the same boat really.
I'm sure your parents will accept you with long hair, you could even say that there are far worse things I could be doing instead of growing my hair, e.g doing drugs, smoking and drinking.
Hope everything goes well in Uni mate!
My mom used to say that I would look terrible with long hair, now she compliments me on how beautiful it is.
Actually, my picture does NOT do me justice. I'm really going to try to update it soon. Really.
Dude a lot women have long hair and they don't care if it suits them or not, I think the reason they are trying to get you to cut your because the natural human instinct to want to criticise someone else. Best thing to do is treat it like a lecture, you hear me in one ear and out the other. Also many women do not want men to have long hair, because so many men don't care what their hair looks like when long, but the same men will buy all kinds of styling gel to get the gelled up look, go to the barber every 2 weeks or months. The most important thing you can have when dealing with other people is not your hair, it is confidence. If your hair is what makes you confident, then I say go for it.
I don't think that my mother says that or especially my sister by the way your parents meant.I think it is only for beaty reasons.Except today when I showed her what I'll look like in many months and the picture was from the book ACCORDING to the rolling srtones I think page 130 where it shows mick on hyde park. When my mother saw that reacted a little strang and told me that she doesn't want me to look like this.I think today she ment that I want to look like a good boy.My father doesn't like it either but I don't care at all.The only reliable is my sister who likes to see me look like a "bad boy".
The truth is that I never thought to do it so long as I say now.In the begining I thought to do it like Martin Rigs in lethal weapon or the longest like Mick Jagger has it today. But now I will do them like this photo. The bad thing is that I have to wait and I think that around easter it will start to look good.I want to ask how often should I wash them.I do it every single day this.My hair looked as I said weird.Today they cutted the water beacuse of some works and I haven't washed them and I watched that they were excelent.I'll try to send you a photo but I don't look very good to pictures.
If you've just started, it wont look good by Easter, it will look awkward!
Dude go for the long hair... My friend got me the Rolling Stones 40 Licks Special Edition Thing last christmas and one picture in the book it came with single-handedly inspired me to grow my hair long. Now my favorite band by far are The Doors and of course I wannna look exactly like Mr. MojoRisin.
