Yeah, sorry to say I was sad enough to post my picture on that site... I get really 'looks' paranoid. Mostly due to my skin, but also due to general insecurity.
I guess I just wanted to know what people really thought. I put on 2 pictures - one with short hair and a current one, to see which way people think I look better.
I'm not going to change either way, but I was curious.
My question concerns the ratings I was given. I got a range of votes - people clicked on all the numbers from 1-10... but how is it that one person looks at you and thinks you're ugly as sin, whereas someone else looks at you and thinks you're... well... hot?
Guess it hasn't really made me feel better or worse. People just confuse me.
wolfeyes
Well those sites really aren't exactly reliable..most people will just glance or not even and just give a random rating. But there are some who do rate for rate and such, I had a pic posted a while back I beleive it was on buddypic or something and actualy had a girl messaging me telling me I was hot and wanting to trade pics. lol. So its a gamble I guess and entertainment at most.
More than likely most of those people are like me; just go to those websites and give them all 1's... not that website in particular, but that little thing that pops up for AIM. The Aim Today thing with the rate a buddy. I just go in check em out but give them all 10's or all 1's depending whether im in the mood to move my mouse or not.
I know what you mean...my rating sucks actually. I do think that some people just go through the pics very quickly without really taking a good look at the person or even give a proper rating. But some do stop and look and will give a honest rating.
But I haven't really looked at mine in a while...
Yes When I was using hot or not.com whoever I didn't like would be rated a 1 and whoever I thought was hot would be rated a 9 or a 10. So yes people do do that, I did it myself
Wolfeyes,
It's called the mirror. When people visit the site, look at your picture (or anyone else's) and then vote, they are projecting themselves onto your image. The numbers meaning nothing, good or bad, about you. They only reflect the "personalities" who voted. Another reason not to participate on sites like this--but you already know that!
Robert
i think guys with traditional haircuts would do better on a site like hotornot.com. on the other hand ive got good ratings on hotgoth.net. the truth is relative to who you ask the question to.
Now that I've got broadband, I think I'll give it a try. I won't take it too seriously though. It's just entertainment as far as I'm concerned.
I give you a 10. : )
Awww, thanks stefan :)
The way I see it, that website exists as light entertainment. I would hope that neither you or anyone else actually take it seriously, but by the sound of it, you do. Why? What does it matter what other people think of how you look? Do you need their approval?
It's called "difference of opinion". You are intelligent enough to know that no two people think alike. Everyone is an individual (c'mon, Wolfie, you didn't really need me to tell you that!)
It should not. It shoud not matter one whit to you either way if the people on that silly website rate you as Ugliest B**tard ever to Walk this Earth or if they rate you as Male Sex Symbol 2004. You are you.
Lol, there is a puzzle none of us can ever hope to solve (!)
Take care,
Huey
basically what I wanted to say...
I know it's nothing serious, I don't take any of it to heart.
But like most people, yes, what other people see when they look at me is relevant, though more to the extent of whether they think they're looking at a nice person or not. I wouldn't change because of it, but it lets me know what most people would be thinking when they meet me.
Generally I like to be undersestimated - I dress in baggy clothes so I have no figure, and I try to disappear in a crowd.
It's not as shallow as whether I'm attractive or not... more just for my own information.
But you're right, I guess it's not even something that people think about when they're rating. So stuff hotornot Lol :)
wolfeyes
..people here have even complimented you on your eyes!
With such 'endorsements'...why worry?!
Relax!
And yeah. When somebody (either Stanley or TBG) brought up your eyes, I TOTALLY agreed but didn't get to post something. Your eyes ARE beautiful.
Love,
Kiat T.
I know you guys have always been lovely with your comments, and I really appreciate anything that's said - good and bad (though there's never really any bad).
As I said I'm a little self-conscious and I can't help thinking you guys are biased... and the fact that you're all so nice! I just needed some feedback from 'random' people.
Love you guys :)

Hi :-)
The answers is pretty simple: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To understand more about this realize that most people consider anyone who is less attractive than they are to be unattractive, those who look similiar to how they see themselves as attractive, and those they view better looking than they see themself to be really hot. So, the unattractive people probably rated you high, the average to above average people probably rated you at that level, and those truly outstanding in the looks department probably rated you low.
Lots of people are like this wolfeyes...........nothing to be ashamed of in the slighest.
Only natural for all of we Humans to be "curious."
First of all, when you think of it, just who are these people anyway? Most likely "average people" who delight in casting an opinion which was asked for and giving them something to do with their computor. A bit of a "play game" for many who visit that sight. But..........beware! Those that are "jealous of you," (and for good reason) may possibly give you a "bad-rating" because of their own insecurity and knowing that you tower over them........skin condition or not! They delight in trying to bring your score down.
Hey.........join the club. People have always confused me! :-)
The best way to look at this whole thing is not really to be taken all that seriously. YOU know of your looks. (I hope.) There is no question in my mind, (and I dare say of anyone else on this Hyperboard) that most of us would give anything for the type hair you were blessed to be born with. Most likely with the right backing someone could easily promote you as a professional model or even actor. The "skin condition" would be professionaly doctored-up (as is the case with ALL models and actors) and suddenly you are a star of the world and pictured in magazines everywhere.. (It is a money maker for the producers. This is the way it works.)
Ever seen a REAL Movie Star off camera? It is quite a shock to be sure. The "looks" that one thinks they have are NOT there at all!
Keep that magnificent hair growing. And please be assured that EVERYONE is ALWAYS their own worst critic and hardest of all on themselves.
Only my opinion here............but you and several others currently growing-out their hair on this Hyperboard, (ie: Surferdude.........Blonde............Aaron) are PURE DYNAMITE IN THE MAKING! :-)
Please don't fret............compliments here are already about 100% for you. In a year you will most likely become an IDOL to people in your town.
With all good wishes-
Justin~
Justin, you always make me smile.
As always, you, and the other guys who have posted here are right. Maybe I just need to slap myself in the face and remind myself that what people think doesn't matter anyway - serious opinions or not.
I always try to remember this, but as I said, looks are one of the things that most worry or concern people... it's the first thing people see when they meet you, and it's instinctive to assess people on that first impression.
Thanks for the post man - hopefully one day I will be acting properly - I'd enjoy doing something like that :)
wolfeyes
Hey Justin, thanks so much for the compliment!
And to Wolfeyes, I agree with Justin, couldn't have put it better myself! They are most likely jealous of you, and any minor complaint you have which doesn't make you perfect e.g Eczema, they will quickly over react and give you a bad rating, because you just aren't perfect, which you appear to be. If you said you had only 1 leg, I'm sure they'll rate you "Dog" or somethibng like that, totally ignoring your face. You're certainly NOT ugly, and I would say you're good looking, so don't worry about it.
Some people will see your face-the first thing on the webpage, and instead of writing the honest thing, they would write the opposite? Why? To try and scare you!
Oh. Come on. Are you really going to take hotornot.com seriously? You know what sort of people frequent the site? High school kids. I certainly did during my lunch breaks in high schools and I gave everybody who seemed over 17 1's because I didn't like older guys. I say you should just ignore them. I think you're hot stuff (and that's all that matters).
Love,
Kiat T.
True, true :)
The only important thing is how my friends see me. Cos they're the only ones whose opinions matter to me.
Thanks man,
wolfeyes
Are you a guy or a girl?
Seriously, I don't mean to offend but I can't tell.
He's a guy! In addition, he's one of the nicest people on this board.
Doesn't the beard give it away?
And wolfeyes, I dunno if anyone else has said this or not, since I haven't read every single post under this topic, but with the range of scores between 1 and 10....you should consider that some people trawl through photos and vote 1 or 2 for the sake of it, to drag someone's rating down.
It's weird to think that someone like you would worry about such things. The first thing that came to my mind with your update photo the other week, was how you looked like the sort of guy out of something like Footballers' Wives, or some softcore Sky One show. You know, the one where everyone looks like a big shot and gets all the chicks.
Matt.
I believe his query was directed at Kiat. I don't see any facial hair on him.
No facial hair, but definately a male face, none the less.
Lol... definately nowehere near the mark, though I'm glad of it. I might be a jerk if I'd been like that... Though I did get the one girl that mattered :)
Thanks man,
wolfeyes
In all reality, only two people matter in their opinions of whether you're hot or not. That's you and that BEAUTIFUL girlfriend you have.
If I had a young lady that pretty and with a beautiful smile who stood by me through good and bad, she'd be the only person whose opinion would matter. Obviously, she thinks you're hot. And that is what really matters.
Personally, I think you're hot. And I'm a straight man!
On your next update, you can provide pics of her. Because as hot as you are, she's even hotter! ;-) I can only imagine the kids you two could have!
I'm sure she'd be as flattered as I am :)
She does tell me quite often that she thinks I look good... I don't know - maybe I'll just never believe it. But I love that she thinks so.
I'll get some more recent pictures taken of the 2 of us for my September update ;)
wolfeyes
I'm looking forward to that! You two are one helluva good looking couple!
Wolfeyes, life is hard enough without inviting the opinions of the immature. Usually such opinions abound unsolicited anyway, and they matter not, so basically, what I'm saying is to stop visiting sites like that one. No reason to add stress to our already stressful days, right? Hold fast to your own opinions first, to those of your girlfriend and family second, to your friends' third, and to the immature opinions, hold them not at all. Don't let psychic vampires have any power over you.
You are good looking to my eyes. Can't wait to see how you "improve" as your hair grows ever longer. :-)
JE
Sound advice in every respect. Thanks Lady G :)
And thankyou for the compliment.
wolfeyes
Well, I'd give my right ball to have your looks !
