help ive been growing my hair for over 3 years its about 17ins long but it doest seem to get any longer I want it down to my elbows but it stopped growing any body else have this happend to them?
Yuppers. Your hair is still growing but it sheds when it gets to a certain length, as everyone's does. Mine stops getting longer at the bottom of my shoulder blades, dashing my hopes of ever having hair to my butt or beyond. When I tie my hair in a ponytail it won't STAY behind my back, it flips to the front when I turn my head.
You and I are SOL, shoulda picked different ancestors :-)
Did you try Hair Formula 37 and a high protein (but low fat and low sugar) diet? Do you use a conditioner before shampooing? Do you shampoo no more than twice a week? These are all reputed factors in improving hair growth to one's potential maximum length.

Have some patience, it may get longer yet. While it may well have reached terminal length, it may also be that now that your hair is longer, that ½ inch per month doesn't have the same visual impact that it did when you first started 3 years ago. Assuming you started from an inch or two length, 15 or 16 inches isn't all that unusual output for 3 years growth. Now would be a good time to get a teensy bit trimmed off for split ends. Wait a year and see how much you have then. When you started growth, it was probably from a hair cut... that is your hairs were a ways into their growth cycle when you last cut them. Now, 3 years later, your hair seems to have slowed- give it time. Those hairs which have begun their growth cycle since you last cut will continue to grow out to their terminal length while the others, which had been cut will be replaced one by one. Your terminal length may well be 30 inches or more, it's just going to take a little more time to attain that extra length.
I can tell you that my hair seemed to have slowed at mid-back- with a very few hairs being significantly longer (almost to belt length); all of which I trimmed back to the bottom of my shoulder blades in June. It now seems to have resumed growth- I have at least 2 inches growth since then and it all appears fuller.
I believe that growing hair out can help develop character; in your case it may be a chance for you to be a more patient person. Be happy with what you have already. 17 inches isn't bad length.
