Picture Purged
Hi Guys & Gals...
Just thought I'd share my Monthly Progress Pics again..
The photos have turned out OK, but I must admit my hair hasn't been playing ball lately. The sides have now reached shoulder length so they now have a tendancy to flip as they press against my shoulders.
A couple of other things...
1) My hair feels completly shot at the moment, I think partly its the heat here (38 degrees Celsius) But I think I'm getting a product build-up too so time for a clarrifier, suggestions?
2) I've been thinking about getting the back trimmed a little to even out the ends so I have a nice sharpe finish to them. I guess I'd do this in 2 small trims over the next 6-9 months, but then again, I'm thinking about getting the whole lot trimmed, just 1/2 an inch as its been 7 months since my last trim and my ends look pretty ragged all over, all different lengths and with a few split ends in the mix. Again I'm not talking anything major, just 1/2 inch to give it some definition back.
Anyway, I welcome your thoughts on the points above and any other comments you have, hope you enjoy the pics.

Alsolutely beautiful hair.
My question is why in the world do you think you need a "trim"? Your hair looks great just as it is. I think that any attempt to "trim" it so that it's all even would be a big mistake. It would not look at all natural, and I suspect it may not hang very well. Let it go for another year or so before you consider getting a "trim". By that time, you may very well discover that the uneveness is what makes it look so good, and hang so beautifully.
Thank you Michael
I guess because of the frizz I endure at the ends particularly the back, if it were cut blunter this frizz would reduce. But also for peice of mind. I'm pretty sure that when I last had it cut there was some semblance of definition to the ends of my hair. 7 Months later this has gone, I'm worried its due to breakage so I figure, I can monitor my ends properly and adjust my care routine if I have a solid base from which to measure.

We only trim my sons hair once a year... like a week before school starts. We trim off the fuzz and some parts that grow really faster than the rest. It keeps the hair in a natural line.
Cool! 38 degrees!!! Isn't the body core temp 36, and if the outside temperature is hotter, doesn't that mean you sweat all day and can't keep cool?! Wow!
P.s I sent you my update pic, it's in the post, er.. email sorry!:)
It's looking really great, Sorted. It's been great to witness your progress. I'd say you should resist the trim for a while.
Looks good you have me beat by a couple inches, but my hair looks similar. I just started posting here, so I will put up a pic soon.
Great pics...and your hair is looking fantastic!
Now about the ends: It is difficult to say what you should do at this time.
Your ends (as far as I can tell from your photos) are very THICK!
I remember when I was at that stage and it caused me lots of trouble.
Without seeing those ends up close, I cannot see the damage you
are talking about.
Sometimes just a couple of extra inches can take care of these 'problems'
because the extra length actually makes your hair 'relax' a bit
due, no doubt, to the extra weight.
Your ends are able to 'fight' you partly because of its thickness
and partly because the length is not sufficient enough to 'tame'
the upward curvings of your hair.
So SHOULD you get a trim? I don't know.
If I had a crystal ball, I would look several months into the future
to see if the weighing down would solve your problems.
If only a hair expert could see your hair up close and then tell
you exactly what to do!
Oh well, Good Luck with whatever decision you make.

Hi Sorted: I think the earlier pictures, when you first got your webcam, looked somewhat better. Perhaps, this time you were having a bad hair day. Did you happen to see Katherine's post about trimming your own hair...good article on "how to". I tried it, just cutting the ends, about a half to full inch and the results were great. I haven't had a trim for over two years and it showed! I was pleased with the result and also with the security of doing it myself....(no one to blame if the whole thing turned out bad!) I am thinking that you have, probably, decided on the trim...so go for it.
very nice!
i say don't trim, leave it alone :)

Sorted,
I think your hair is progressing nicely, but I do agree with the trim. NOTHING drastic though. I think the back looks great, but I'm sure the ends could use a little maintenance. Just my humble opinion. The side pic confirms what you are talking about.
ck.
Great hair! I don't see any obvious damage. The 'natural ends' are, well, natural. I don't think you need a trim unless it would make you feel better. I think the summer heat and humidity make hair difficult. I've been going through a bad hair spell this summer. To clarify I use apple cider vinegar. About 100ml or so with another 400ml of water. I pour this through my hair after shampoo but before conditioning. I think it helps reduce buildup and doesn't make the hair smell at all. Thanks for the update. Congratulations on your super progress!
Your hair looks incredible in that back shot. To get past the flips in the shortest time you may want to hold off on trims for another 6 months or so. I use Tressemme clarifying shampoo, you may want to give it a try. Absalom
The flipping up problem... look at your photos the inner part bottom layer of your hair is longer than the top layers... My youngest son (age 11) had that problem like 2 or 3 years ago and he thought he looked like Jody Foster... so we parted it down the middle and then took up 2 inches on both sides of the part and in the back and put in a pony tail on top of his hair. Then we trimmed only the under layers and left the top layers (that were in the ponytail on top of his head) alone. The curling stopped and he now has surfer hair very close to that of his big brother in the "Drama Student" photo here.
Esmerelda
Yeah - that works if you have grown out without trims because you hair then has natural layers. By leaving the top layers (tie-ing them in a ponytail) and cutting the under layers you will have evened out the hair, whilst still leaving the top naturally layered to soften the look. I expect that would work quite well under those circumstances.
Essentially I guess I'm planning to do something along the same lines, except I'm only talking about taking 1/2 an inch. Besides there's only about a 1 inch difference between the top layers and the lower layers at the sides, and 3 inches at the back. Plus I don't want to cut out all my layers, I just want to give the ends a bit more definition.
Sorted
[NB: A word of warning to anyone who's already "evened out" their hair, the technique described by esmerelda will end up "undercutting" your hair leaving the top layers longer than the lower layers... not a good move.]
NEVER DO THAT!
Looking good :o)
I have the same "problem" at the moment, so I know what you mean by getting it trimmed a bit. I think I'll be going in the next two months or so.
Anyways, your hair is awesome.
Thee Longhaired Gal
Your Hair looks great man..we have very similar length hair probably the same actually..i was wondering if you can post a picture of you pulling your bang down, i would really like to see the length of it. Thanks
Picture Purged
Well here's the picture of me pulling my bangs down. They reach just about an inch or so below my chin.
But its kinda funny cos the hair right at the very front and centre of my hairline does not reach so far. These hairs are variable lengths between my mouth and chin.
I'm not sure if they just have a shorter Terminal Length or if they have suffered breakage or damage. The ends don't look damaged as its the one part of my hair I can check closely for splits, I guess this is one of the things that is giving me concern.
Sorted
Maybe it's just me, but it looks like your hair has had a good growth spurt - it's really looking long now that it's past touching your shoulders!
I know you're excited about it - I would be!
I think a trim would make it look neater, though only do it if you're comfortable - remember you'll have to go through some more flips if it has to re-grow.
But as I said, your call - looks great to me :)

Sorted. Hair looks great. I understand the build up issue. As my hair got your length and longer, my already heavy hair really felt bad when it gunked up. I started using Aussie only about a year and a half ago. It claims no build up, and I find that to be true. Summer heat seemed to dry out the ends a bit, so I am using Aussie Three Minute Deep Conditioner, and like that, too.
Good luck.
Robert
That's very nice. It definitely would be considered long hair!
Ed
Please let the hair grow!
When it is long enough, it can be tied back into a pony tail on hot days. Also wetting the hair can help keep it cool on hot days.
When it's longer, it won't "flip" or curl up on the ends because the weight of the longer hair keeps it from curling. Please don't make the mistake of never getting beyond the awkward stage by cutting it.
Very impressive, I can't see the damage in the photos. I think the side view shot is particularly outstanding.

Well Here's a quick Picture from the Morning After...
This is before the day has taken its stress on my hair... Wind, Heat, Sweat etc. So the condition looks much better.
I washed my hair with my Alternative Shampoo & conditioner this morning which isn't quite so loaded with Cones as REDKEN All Soft or Smooth Down.
You can also see my Bangs Picture below.
Sorted,
When I first grew my hair out, I got no trim at all until my hair was mid back, and then, the only trimming I got was very precise 1/2 jobs over the course of a year so that the front and sides could catch up with the back. In other words, I found a stylist who understood I was trying to get it all one length and she did exactly what I asked. I was only in for that 1/2 trim evey 2-3 months, so overall, my hair, even then, continued to get longer.
Now that it is all one length at mid-back, I get a trim to keep the end neat and even. I wouldn't do any trimming of your hair at this point. It looks great.
Robert
Wow Sorted
That hair has really taken-off. Looks fantastic!!!!!!!!!
I know what you mean about the "flips" when the hair reaches the shoulders. Seems like this lasts forever..........or at least it did in my case.
And yes, the hotter weather effects my hair also. When cooler, the "waves" that showed-up in my posting a number of days ago diminishes greatly.
Whatever you are doing, your success rate is 100%!
Justin
...Sorted! Your hair seems to grow very fast. As far as the trim, I would say do whatever makes you feel comfortable during this time period while you are growing out. I personally chose, this time growing out, to trim the back to make it all even. Haven't any any problems yet. :)
I agree this is a good move. I love the all-one-length look.
Hey dude! Almost missed your post :-o
I've been very busy lately (yes even though Im on my summer holidays! - lol)
Your hair looks fab as usual, and is getting pretty long now! Im not quite sure how long mine is compared to yours as Ive had it almost constantly in a tail for the last few weeks - but I think your's is longer, definately at the sides.
Regarding the trim, I would'nt if I was you. I think it needs another few inches before having it all level would look "right", and the end's dont look ragged to me at all!
Anyway, congratz on your sleek hair, I cant get mine as shiny as yours with a cupboard full of conditioners etc :-S
~Gaz
your hair rocks dude!
