Hey all,
As you may or may not know, Im new to this board and regrowing my hair out officially for the 3rd time :-). I must say, this is such an awesome board! Everyone here has been very informative and polite so far.
So, I have yet another question. I told my hairdresser that I am growing my hair again, and she said to come in every 6 months for a trim anyway. Is this bull or what? Im thinking about just letting it go for a while. Til Christmas maybe?
Ill be posting some pics of my hair since I grew it first in 95, to when I shaved my head last year, and then decided to regrow hehe. Ill also post pics of some cool looking longhairs, mostly in the metal scene of course. Thanks again to you all for giving me inspiration to grow my hair finally once and for all!

I'd put my money on that.
I had my last trim in january, and my hair is fine.
I'll get another trim when I think it's necesarry.
If you want to have long hair, this is a *bad* idea.
You'd stall your growthrate terribly much.
6 WEEKS!!! In 6 weeks, you'd grow about 3/4 of an inch. Most trims are at least 1 inch so you would be actually loosing length, rather than gaining! When I saw 6 months in your earlier post, I thought to myself for the hairdresser to say that, she must not be short of money and 6 months is acceptible although I would leave it grow for at least 10-12 months before having a trim.
Yeah, I agree that every 6 weeks is too often. Whatever you grow will be trimmed off, so it'll stay the same length! :)
I get my hair trimmed very infrequently - a year or two between trims is about normal for me. I'd say only trim when you feel that your hair really needs it.

your hair looks terrific in that pic! how long did it take you to grow to the length in that pic? did u start from where u shaved? cuz i shaved my head a week ago, and decided to let it all grow out again...But i am afraid i won't have the patience that it takes to grow that long... Hey thanks! Well, shaving my head was something I thought Id never do, since Im into metal and music so much. But, out of pure insanity I buzzed my head at the very end of March 2003. I regrew the top down, and trimmed the back and sides constantly to even it all up. The back is a bit longer than the front and sides, but Im just gonna let it for a while now.
My last trim was 11 months ago and I wish I hadn't done it. I wouldn't get it trimmed. It takes that much longer to grow out. - my 2 cents.
Actually, I think trimming about ½" every 6 months is probably about right for trims, which would cause you to lose only about one inch a year, provided that you are taking care of your hair enough to prevent damage.
I'm currently triming at about twice that rate, but I expect to reduce my trims very soon.

From a fellow Jersey metalhead musician, a drummer, welcome to the board bro. We've got a great group of people here. As for the trims, I would say 6 months is about right. I think it depends on the state of your hair. If you take care of it and don't have any split ends then just keep growing.

THANKS everyone, for your replies. I figured every 6 weeks was way too often if Im gonna want to be gaining some length. I get the same line from every hairdresser...get the ends taken off every 6 weeks. Im just gonna let it go from here for a few months.
