Hey guys, i'm 16 years old and for a while now have thought that i am loosing my hair. My hair isn't exactly thinning out, it's just that my hairline is receded big time! I don't know if this is normal or not (especially at my age) but i just feel it's getting worse. I've always had quite a high hairline even when i was very young... does having a hairline like this make me more prone to balding? I would hate to be loosing my hiar so young:( Anyway i just would like your advice or opinions on this, thanks.
This isn't something you should worry about, as it's most likely genetic - check out your parents and grandparents (I hear guys are *more likely* to recieve hair genes from their mother's father... however I did not).
A receeding hairline is something that can reveal itself at your age, and there's nothing wrong with it - in fact most guys hairlines will receed to some extend. It does not mean you will go bald (I thought I would when my hair started greying at age 17).
I have friends with high hairlines who still have long hair and they still look great. Basically all I can say is not to stress about it. Just take it as it comes - if you lose hair, you lose hair. If you don't, you don't. It doesn't change your personality, and your friends will still love you, and many many girls love guys with shaved heads (if it comes to that).
All the best!

Cheers Wolfeyes, i'm sure it probably nothing to worry about, and i'll try my best not to. It's just that I like having my longer hair, and would hate to lose it...I'm sure you can imagin how it would be. Anyway, thanks for your support, much appreciated!
Sorry, for posting again, i was just gonna say that i really don't want to lose my hair before i get to grow my hair truely long. Does it take along time for someone to lose their hair, or can it happen suddenly? (just wondering) Thanks guys!

I think Wolfeyes has giving you some good advice. A lot of it is genetic. Look at the adults on both sides of the family. What do their hairlines look like? They will be much older than 16? I have posted my picture again. My hair line has receded some since I was 16, but I think I still have a decent head of hair at 44! I have a cousin whose other grandfather (one we didn't share) had a hairline that receded much more dramatically than our shared grandfather. Guess which genes he got? And by the time he was in his early 20's much further back than mine.

I'm 17 and I feel I have a high hairline too. I don't think it's anything to worry about though, find out when your father, grandfather on both sides when they went bald (if they did)
If none has gone bald, I doubt there's anything to worry about. My Brother in Law started loosing his hair at 16-17 himself, but has kept much more than his twin brother, who is completely bald. I've attatched a pic of my forehead which I think looks rather high, it was taken probably about 2 months ago, but it's always looked like that, does your forehead look like this?. I think there's a spray Ste mentioned called Nioxin, it removes DHT from the scalp and stops the receding dead in its tracks, but you must use it regularly.
Good luck and hope everything goes fine for you.
Thanks for the imput:) I don't really want to start using products to stop receding if there's nothing to worry about. I have always had this hairline since i was alot younger ( i checked back in photo albums, and it's pretty much the same ) so it's probably not worth worrying about yet. Still, it does have me concerned from time to time.
SD: Your hairline is pretty much like mine. It's hard to really tell how far back mine is, but I reckon it is just a little further back than yours. When I pull my hair back and look at my scalp, hair roots seem plentiful, but when I feel the top of my head it is super thin. I am finding it difficult to see if the top of my head is similar to the sides and back - if so, thinness isn't down to MPB.
Anyway, to Anonymous, some sciencey drivel: Hair loss caused by MPB is down to DHT as Surferude mentioned. DHT is created when 5-alpha Reductase combines with testosterone. Because of that, MPB shows it's crappy face any time after puberty kicks in. DHT is present in everyone, but in cases of MPB one's genes are such that certain hair follicles are pre-programmed to react to DHT, getting weaker and thinner until no hair grows. I think baldness involves a recessive (how ironic!) gene, which comes from your mother. But either parent's bloodline can pass it on.
There isn't much you can do about it unfortunately, especially at your age considering the costs of products, which aren't even guaranteed to work.
Having a high hairline is perfectly normal, fellow member Gollan (if my memory serves me) once said that his temple region receded in his 20's, and didn't budge a bit since. And his hair is great and healthy.
As for the rate of hair loss - again I think it's down to genes. I have had an online presence around balding men for some months now. Some notice rapid loss in 6 months, others drag on and on at snail pace.
So really, don't worry about it. Take care of your hair, enjoy your hair, have fun with it. In either event, getting the most out of your hair is your best shot.
Hope that helps.
Matt
Try not to let it bother you too much. :) It may only receed a little then stop.
My hair line receeded a tiny bit but then stopped around age 25. I just turned 30 and it hasn't receeded more since that time.
Chin up!
