Hello All.
I am getting my hair cut (not much - just a trim), but I need to get
it cut in a better style. I want to be able to have it long without
hair in my face (too much). I don't want to have to pull it back all
the time. I found some examples, but of course they are all women's sytles. Please let me know what you think would be a good idea...
By the way, I'm getting my hair cut on Saturday!
Thanks,
Tim
Take a look at the June 23, 1997 issue of Time magazine, p. 56.
There's a picture of John Romero, the designer of the computer games
DOOM and Quake. As an alternative, maybe a Sandra Bullock-like
style.
Tim, we never saw a posting of the cut and highlights. Please post
Tim,
Some nice styles shown there. Could you tell us a little bit more about your hair as it is now, such as current length, whether it is layered, whether it is wavy/curly and what sort of length and if this is still a growing out phase what style you would like to end up with. Perhaps I or someone else can then offer suggestions on what style may suit.
Cath
Right now, my hair in the front is just below my nose. IN the back, it is a few inches from my shoulders. It is really thick and bushy on the sides, and I am not real fond of that. MY hair is slightly wavy at points, but not so much when it is getting longer like it is right now. ALso, it is not layered much at all. I'm going for around shoulder length hair that I can let hang free a lot without it looking to messy or unprofessional. Thanks for you help all who have posted here!
Hi Tim,
I have a few suggestions for where you are now and where you want to be. You need to make a choice though about whether you want to grow you bangs out or keep them shorter.
For example if you want to cut your bangs then go for something like the bob worn by Sandra Bullock in Speed or the shorter of the two Meg Ryan cuts shown in Style2. I think I would prefer the Sandra Bullock style in this case if you want to keep growing hair from the crown down and the back into your shoulders.
If you do not want to cut your bangs and would like to grow them out as well then try something like the style shown here or one of the Gillian Anderson cuts you posted - bottom left in Style 1 or 3rd from left on top row of Style 2. There is not a lot of difference in these actual cuts.
This decision is up to you and depends whether you want the hair completely out of your face or not.
As for where you want to be this again depends on what you do with your bangs. If you keep growing them then something like the longer style shown in the bottom right of Style 1 or the suggestion for a longer style I have posted below would be good. If you want to keep your bangs shorter then the longer Meg Ryan style shown in Style 2 would look great on a guy, but would probably need a perm.
I like both options, but it is a matter of personal preference for you and how much maintenance do you want to put into it.
Good luck and please let us know what you decide. Also if you need any more help just post again, but don't do anything in the short term until you are really clear what you want to achieve at the end - far better to leave it another week. Also, I applaud you for going for something with some style and having the courage to ask for suggestions and then put up 'women's' styles. As anyone who has read my posts below will know I don't think that there needs to be such a gap between how men and women can wear their hair.
Cath
Well, I got it cut. I think a little more than I wanted was cut off, but it will be healthier and grow out quicker. Thanks for the suggestions and help everyone! I opted for short bangs, and a graduated layers going toward the back. I also did blonde highlights (my hair is brown.) I'm pretty happy with it... I will try to post a pic in a day or two.
Thanks again,
Tim
That sounds good - is this more like the Sandra Bullock look in Speed than any of the pics you posted. Was it your stylist who suggested that cut. Does this mean that you are going for a longer look growing drown from your crown, with short bangs.
Cath
Another Gillian Anderson cut you may want to consider for the moment. The bangs are still being grown, but the overall style is much less wavy.
If this Tim guy is the same one who's pic I saw following the rows of b&w's he's got on his web site (which I think it is), the style in that pic would look a great deal more flattering on him than the styles I saw in his own posts. NICE lookin' doo.
Finally, here is the other pic I saw which may look good long. If I see any others I will post in the future.
