Since being able to put the hair at the sides of my head in my mouth, I've been doing it many times a day, sometimes out of boredom, and sometimes because I like to feel it getting longer.
You must understand this is the first time I've grown out my hair and being able to remember it properly (have very little memory of my long hair in the past, it was cut when I was about 5 years old)
I tend to chew the back of my hair, the sides, and just about anywhere my hair reaches. The bangs are nearly level with my mouth and just about touch my teeth. I'm trying to take my mind off it!
I bet everyone who has grown their hair out has done this, I'd like to hear comments about it, like when did you stop chewing, how many months before you were able to start chewing.
I may need a trim eventually to get rid of the damage. Can't see any damage yet, but it's only a matter of time!
Yikes!:)
I once read in the paper about a girl who died because she had been chewing her hair for so many years as a kid, that one day the hair she'd swallowed had built up so much that it was blocking her insides.
Matt
Cats are designed to upchuck hairballs, I guess it doesn't work so well in people.
I remember doing this vaguely, it must have been when I was a child.
I to saw this she had a massive hairball inside her.
I dont think theres much to worry about if your not like eating it literally, if your only playing with it in your mouth it shouldnt really do any damage, the ph of the mouth is just above neutral, also the enzymes in your mouth are for the breakdown of carbohydrates (amylase) so protiens should be unneffected. Just dont grind it in your molars which could cause damage : ) have fun!
I dont think I have ever chewed on my hair haha.
Hmm, yeah I remember at about 8 months or so I would take the back "flips" and kind of hold them in my mouth.
Not so much anymore. :-P
Hey Surferdude!
Ha ha ha ha ha. I laugh because I understand so well the "delights" in chewing hair. There is just something so rewarding about it when growing out your hair. Though I hardly do it anymore at my stage, I surely was like "JAWS" when it finally reached my mouth and I was at the stage you are in at present.
As for damage? In my case I really didn't detect any and have yet to have a trim. (Nor do I have any plans on getting any trims at all because I am happy enough at the way my hair has been growing.)
When your age, my Bangs were usually always long. When they got to my mouth I would chew! It was kinda fun. Then I would get a haircut and it would take about 3 months to reach my mouth again. (Back then I liked my Bangs to be right at below Eye Level.) Why I found this enjoyable I do not know...........but I remember many other guys in my classes that were always chewing on their hair. Most of us had in those days the front trimmed and let the back get quite long. But it wasn't really a Mullet. I don't even know what you would have called it. But to us we liked it and were all very happy!
Of course you are now reaching major goals and the excitement of having Long Hair is probably really starting to get to you. It is such a blast! Perhaps chewing happens to all of us? I wouldn't fret about it at all.
BTW: Your newest photos are pure DYNAMITE! 100% success and the longer hair looks sensational. You have something to be proud of without question.
My best to you as always.
Justin~
...I have put the ends of my hair between my lips just for the heck of it.
Actually, I don't really doing anything with my hair EXCEPT...
on rare occasions, I may hold the end of my tail in front of me
while watching tv. May even 'play' with it a bit.
Oh, and one other think I like to do is to stroke the top of my head!
The hair feels soooo silky--it's just a nice feeling. But
I only do that occasionally.
Interesting topic!
I don't think chewing on your hair would be a good idea anymore bud, lol. You could get some serious split end damage.
I used to do this when my hair first reached my mouth, I got over doing it though when I realiesed that all my chewed ends were getting damaged. I think I've managed to kick the habit now though.
Sorted
My hair is getting longer too, and either when it's curly or straight, I can put it in my mouth as well.
I think I was able to put my hair in my mouth from about 8 to 9 months.
Yup, I would be careful about damage too. I don't want to go see the hairdresser anytime soon.
I remembered a story from the television that I was watching a couple of years ago. It was called Ripley's Believe It or Not. Remembering a couple of details: a teeenage girl living in southeast Asia had been chewing her hair for years. When she was 16 or 17 years old, she complained of stomach pains and couldn't eat anything. She was rushed to the hospital where they discovered that something was inside the stomach. When they opened the stomach, they saw all the hair that been swallowed and completely occupied and took shape of the stomach!
The hair stomach-mould is now sitting in some museum.
