I was wondering do any of you guys use any sort of hair products in your hair. If so what sort of gel should a long haired person use in their hair. Alot of them seem to be aimed at people with shorter hair. At the moment my hair is sort of medium length so I get away with using a hair wax, but this would be too greasy when it gets longer.

Just quite messing with your hair and let it do its thing.
Constantly messing with and worrying about your hair is the longest way to go through the akward stage.

Gel is THE worst thing to put in growing hair. It overdries and flakes your hair and is ALWAYS sticky. Gel is good for short haired people w/ spiky hair looks. Try mousse or John Frieda leave in hair conditioners.
Sure there are lots of great products avail which are NOT drying or damaging to your hair contrary to what others may think. The are lots of gels which are moisturising and even have some uv protection. My fav 'gel' is paul mitchel styling glaze but this is more for curly hair, its like a serum more so than a gel. I also like aveda stling products, they're all alcohol free so wont dry out your hair, they act as leave in cond with hold, and can give great shine and texture. I think you should absolutely use products when you are growing out your hair, not everyones hair grows out in a 'style' so products are essential to keep your hair looking good as opposed to needed a haircut look. Have fun and experiment, also whatever you choose check the ingredients, one thing to note is that not all alcohols are bad, the 'fatty' alchohols are totally different to the other alcohols like alcohol denat etc in that they act as 'moisturisers'. I would also rec a none alcoholic mousse to give your hair some volume as it looks a little flat on your head.
I just have to say Ste, you've got some great advice when it comes down to hair! I've read most of your replies here and you always put your responses in such a informative way...really good!
