I remember a few people over the years that have mentioned washing your hair with alcoholic drinks such as Heineken, Fosters etc. They said that it helps make hair smooth and shiny and to also helps treat dryness and maintain healthy hair.
Is this true. What are your view on this?
Grim
I do know that washing your hair with beer was a fad in the 70's. I don't recall anyone ever saying anything good about it. I can't imagine it would be good for your hair since alcohol has a drying effect. There are some conditioners that supposedly contain beer. I think the beer is a gimmick and the other ingrediants are what really does the job, if any.
I think if it were to be true, that people would still be following this route.............in mass like crazy by now! Shampoo and Conditioners must have "won-out" for a reason. And I am sure that these companies will drink a "toast" to that one. :-)
I really don't think this would work to well. Imagine going to school, or work with your hair smelling like beer. Beer smells awful enough when you drink it. I recommmend to not try this unless you have nothing else to do later.
It won't be trying anything like this! I was just curious.
Hahahahahahahahaha!!!! e.t.c :-)
I've heared of this too, never bought it for one minute!
I think beer on hair smells gross, when I get back from a nighclub, I always wash condition, and care for my hair, even if I still might be a little drunk then!:)
How old are you? I always thought you were 17. If so, tisk tisk with the nightclubs :P
By the way I just checked out your site again and saw the 9 months progress page. The picture at the bottom, with your face slanted upwards looks mucho cool. I'm trying to remember where I was after 9 months. What I do know though is that in the last 9 months my hair has grown from roughly where you're at now, down to just below my chin. Hopefully we'll be seeing the same on you :)
Matt
Lol! Yea, you're spot on with my age.
I don't drink often at all, or go to nightclubs often, last time I went to nightclubs was in April! Since growing my hair long, it's really been rubbing off on my personality, and I just keep getting attention from all the girls:) So I get asked out very often.
Wow, thanks!
Cool, yea, there's no chance I will follow in the footsteps of many here who have cut their hair for movie roles, or because they can't stand hair in their eyes! I honestly don't think I'll EVER go back to my short hair days, I look so much better the longer it gets. Thanks for checking my website, it was a lot of work cropping, resizing, scaling, taking the actual pics, uploading, you get the 'picture' lol:)
Picture Purged
By the way, is this the pic you meant?
Certainly is! Do you get anyone to take them for you?
P.S I've posted so damn much tonight! I'd better cut down.
Lol!!! So have I, I'm back and forth from this computer so much, I think I'm gonna call it a night! *yawns*
Nope, I took the pics myself, I just went outside the back garden, outstretched my arm, and took a few pics. I took about 15 pics and choose the best ones for posting.
Whislt it sounds like a fun idea (and you know there is actually a shampoo/cond with beer in it in superdrug here) I dont think it will really work better than a decent conditioner. Plus as everyone else has said, you'll smell like an alcoholic which is never a godo thing. I'm not sure on the ph of beer as I guess this would depend on the brand, but if its acidic it could account for the increase in shine, there is very little or no protein in beer and little else only sugars so I dont think it has any properties to condition really, it may have clarifying properties similar to ACV which could also account for the shine. ACV stinks too tho : (
Most of you are probably too young to remember back in the 70's there wash a shampoo called Beer (but it had a different spelling, I think.)
It claimed to have real beer as an ingredient and it actually smelled good. It was thick and dark brown.
I actually liked it, but of course I thought using a beer shampoo was cool back in grade school ;-)
In the early 70s my older sister used to do it - though only occasionally as I remember. She had beautiful, long auburn hair. Maybe she rinsed really well and used a conditioner afterwards to avoid the smell. Don't know. (She also used to put raw egg in her hair occasionally...something about the protein I suppose!)
My mum now says that she used to do this. She said that she used to wash her hair with alcohol, smell for the rest of the day and then wash her hair again with shampoo and conditioner. Using the alcohol previously it help make her hair really smooth, soft.....
I remember washing my hair once with beer a long time ago. I don't recall it doing anything special, and it seemed a waste of beer. I don't remember it smelling of beer, though.
Beer does contain vitamin B in the yeast, which is good for hair, but it's more enjoyable to drink the beer to get your vitamin B than to apply it topically! Of course, some wimpy beers have all the yeast filtered out, so stay off those and keep to the good stuff!
