Sammy Hagar is getting his long hair cut off on the tonight show this Friday night. He will be donating the hair to "Locks of Love", and organization that supplies hair to children who have lost their own hair to medical treatments for cancer. I think that this is a dramatic event, but for a GREAT cause. His fan sit is hosting a survey asking fans how short he should go and also asked if fans would be interested in doing the same. What do you all think? Is he crazy?
Now that would mean that Sammy Hagar experiences baldness as if he were on chemotherapy. Meanwhile, the children would get that long hair and get to look like Sammy Hagar!
I really love Sammy Hagar's hair - ON HIM - but isn't his hair kinda overly bleached out? I mean, I don't know if he's doing these kids such a big favor. If his hair was healthy-looking, then alright.

Because longhaired men suffer significant discrimination, and the threats associated with that often concern haircuts, use of a man's hair cutting in a public forum for entertainment purposes goes way beyond "insensitive". It encourages others who would threaten us or do us harm.
This is, of course, not the first time that Jay Leno has shown hostility and insensitivity towards our community - last spring he staged the shearing of a man against his will on the show. If Jay's concern was really helping cancer victims and just that, my question would be, why not have a woman make the donation, since women do not generally face oppression for having long hair?
While we're on the topic, here is a suggestion for another similar fundraising opportunity for Mr. Leno:
Slave Sale - Auction off celebrities as your slave for a day. Offer only black ones.
Resources for Longhairs - includes discrimination references
I'm pleased to know that Sammy isn't one of those guys who confuses his identity with his hair style. Go, Sammy!
The platform of a haircut, especially men, against their will is odd. I do not deny their is descrimination of longhairs, but a haircut against someone's will is assualt! I live on the West Coast, so that doesn't seem to be happening here, but is this kind of assualt happening other places---men getting their hair cut against their will?
I, too, believe the cause for kids is a good one, providing the hair is DONATED. If I lost my hair, even as an adult, I would love to have that kind of support. I think it would be funny to get a wig out of Sammy Hagar's hair. If that wig could talk!
I would love to see a woman DONATE her hair on the Tonight show, if it was her choice. What would people say if Alanis Morrisette donated hr hair, too. Would that be discrimination? I don't think so>
