Have any of you guys found that once you attained the length that you'd waited so long to come, that you wanted to whip it all off and go through it all again? Did you find the growing process more fun than just having long hair and maintaining a length?
I personally love the growth of hair, and seeing it progress. Whenever I see a skinhead I sometimes can't help but think how good it would be to start all over and see the hair grow, visibly more and more. Maybe it's because with long hair that's just getting longer, gains aren't so evident in the short-term, whereas with shaved hair you can compare no hair to a head of hair. A mental trick perhaps?
I hope this makes sense to at least someone.

Yep, I know what u mean. I think it is really important and I dont think many people here do this, but you should look to see at various stages what suites you best. Not all people suit having excessive long hair as they dont have the facial shape for it, I grew mine out to a short-midlength (stll fairly short) but then cut it back shorter (but still longish) as it was becoming unmanagable and didnt really suite me. Every time I get it cut tho I can see where it looks better when its say thinned or a bit shorter so when I grow it back I wont have the same problems I had before, or rather I can address those problem areas better. I also love experimenting, and like to try different things daily, so no doubt after i've achieved my perfect long hair look, I'll cut it off and have a short spiky look or something.
Done it a million times!
Sometimes when I see a Skinhead I wish I could go back to short hair for a few days, but I generally like my hair longer.
I have marked major life changes by getting it cut, such as quitting a job I hated (kind of the reverse of many people, eh? quiting and cutting?) and 9/11. So maybe I'm not a "true longhair" but a cyclical longhair or something. This is my 2nd major grow-out, with about 2 or 3 minors in the mix. Oddly enough, I've been thinking of cutting lately. I'm closing in on 3 years and it's actually getting to be a hassle in some ways, like drying takes a lot longer, ponytail tie is actually starting to pull a bit, etc. I haven't started any "two week countdowns" yet though.
Do any other "cyclical longhairs" post here?
I have nearly reached my goal of knee length and could not be happier. The last thing I would want to do is start over again. My hair is a symbol of stability in my life. Absalom
I used to know a guy who cut his hair once a year. I also know someone who cut all his hair off after 20 years of growing it, but hasn't had a haircut since, and that was maybe a year or 18 months ago. Certainly some people are cyclic, but I only ever had short haircuts under pressure or by accident.
Personally, I have never wanted to have short hair, and even when it was short it was never very short. I'm afaid my honest initial reaction to a skinhead is usually fear! This comes from when I used to go to football games and they were the ones involved in all the violence. I never had a crewcut myself.
