Right now, the longest point of my hair is at the base of my neck. I was it every other day, and it gets thick/wavy/poofy toward the base when I do. I've tried a straightner, but it really doesn't help. If I keep growing my hair, do you think it could end up like this? (Dave was notorius for not washing his hair). I was thinking of getting it thinned but I've heard it adds more volume.
Any tips to make my hair less wavy/poofy? It's bothering me, and I've considered getting it cut, but I keeping telling myself to let it grow and see what happens.
Since I cannot see the photo it is impossible to tell for sure. If your hair type is almost identical to the person in the photo(which I cannot see) it is possible. If your hair differs from his it probably is not possible and you would be best finding a hair style that works with your own hair type. Absalom
Eh, thanks guys. My parents say my hair reminds them a lot of George Harrison. It's lame because all of the skaters and frat boys have this poofy/wavy hair, and mine looks like it. I'd just like it nice and straight, but I'll probably get it cut.
And it is David Gilmour from Pink Floyd (the picture was from the Dark Side recording sessions. Copy and paste the link). I've seen late 60s pictures of him with poofy ends like me, but around 71 it was nice and straight. I think it's because of added length and not washing it, though.
Yeah his hair did lay down when he didnt wash it. in some of his earlier pictures it seems like he had very thick poofy type hair but it really laid down later iam too going for this look when mine gets that length
I agree with Absolom. If your hair is like the hair of the guy in the pic, then yes. But you are talking about straightening your hair so it sounds like you have some natural curl in your hair. IN that case, no, not without major damage to your hair trying to get it to straighten.
I think this is one of the biggest pitfalls we all can fall into: wanting out hair to look like somebody else's. Accept your hair as it is, and let it be its own style!
Good luck,
Robert
This is the best recommendation I can give you. Many years ago, I used to try so hard to have fluffy, curly hair, but all the perming that it required wrecked my naturally stick-straight hair. It took a while for me to realize that I was insulting myself big time by rejecting the natural, healthy hair that I had in preference for unhealthy, chemically altered hair. I ruined what was already perfect for me based on stupid pop culture notions that my hair wasn't "good enough." What a load of crap (pardon me)!
Once I accepted my own hair type, I determined that I was going to prefer it to all others. This greatly simplified my hair care routine, and I was able to cut out salon visits entirely, which saved me money. My hair regained its health, became shiny and strong again. And verrry long!!
So instead of wishing to be something/one other than who you are, find photos of men whose hair is like yours. I bet there are men in this very group who would provide great hair role models for you, and what's really great about them is that they are participants here, so you can learn the tricks and techniques that work for their hair type -- your hair type. You can't beat that on a quest to grow your own hair to its fullest potential.

Hi Josh
I had similar problems and the only way I could sort it out was by using gel. I used to have to wet my hair (not wash it because that would make it even more bushy) then blowdry it and then before it had chance to puff out again I would use a spritz gel that you spray on (ShockWaves was the one I used). This worked well and kept my hair looking good but it did make my hair rock solid and I had to wash it out every night.
Once it got a bit longer and I could just about get it into a ponytail I would use a styling mousse to slick it back and hold my bangs in place until it was long enough to all reach the band.
I cannot see the pic but are you by any chance talking about dave gilmour the guitarist in pink floyd because he was notorious for the same thing? If so he did have quite nice straight hair?
