I am really getting into this long hair discussion board. I find myself visiting here often sometimes posting and sometimes just looking through all of the things that people have posted. This is by far one of my favorite sites to visit when i'm bored or when I need some suggestions. I have saved this site in my save folder and will be visiting back quite often. This is a great site.
I've been growing my hair out for a year and a half or so. I started out with really short hair (bowl cut) which I didn't care much for it I felt stupid and looked about as bad. Then I got this idea to try growing it out. I get alot of crap from my friends and family b/c I am growing it out. But hey I feel much better about myself than I ever have. I guess it is b/c I feel like I can accomplish something.
I've had a few thoughts of cutting my hair but I quickly came back to my whits that I didn't want to. My hair was about 5 inches long the last time i measured it and that has been sometime ago so i'm guessing it has gotten longer since then. And I can't wait to get it down past my shoulders. (About half way there) :) I will try to get some pictures of my hair and post them on here as soon as i can.
I look forward to getting to know you all. Good luck with your hair growth. Peace

I'm relatively new to the board, too, but I share your sentiments. Thanks.
Hi, I have recently got engaged to a sikh girl, and my fiance's father's wish is to see me as a sikh with long hair when i get married in 12 months from now. I am an Indian living in Ghana and have very short hair. Part of the Sikh tradition to tie up their hair is to make a long braid, and then coil it into a bun at the top of the head, just above the forehead. As this is quite a herculean task for me, I am still prepared to take it up. I have read quite a lot about growing long hair for men on sites, but the time factor seems to be my biggest constraint. I have never had long hair before. How long does one have to wait before tying a braid? ANd does it really hurt when you have to make a tight braid and then coil it into a tight bun/knot at the top of your head? I have seen young Sikhs do it and they say it pains a lot. Is there any means of avoinding the pain? Is it true that tying your hair with a tight elastic band actually lengthens your hair? And is it also true that the bun at the top of your head acts a shelter from heat and other calamities, especially if something heavy falls on your head, it crashes on your bun first and your head doesnt get hurt. IS that true? I am in a real fix now as I am all out to embrace Sikhism and living in Ghana i do not know whom to approach. Could you please help me out with an email written to me about how to got about things. Thank you.
In twelve months your hair will be almost exactly six inches longer than it is now.
But at least it will show your father-in-law that you
are heading in the right direction...
and that you do take it seriously.
I don't see how he could complain since you
are no 'miracle worker!'
