I heard or read somewhere that the Folic acid in prenatal vitamans help with making hair grow a tad faster? is this true or an urban legend?
The short answer is NO.
The medium answer is this: If you are getting enough vitamins, minerals and enzymes in your diet then adding more only makes for expensive urine. If, however, you are the usual American teenager whose diet sucks (medical term) then you would probably benefit from a once-a-day preparation. The ONLY difference between prenatal vitamins (PNV) and the non-PNVs is 1 mg of folic acid. To the best of my knowledge, whether it affects hair has not been studied. I have not done a comprehensive search. Bottom line is go ahead and take them for six months, then take a regular multi-vitamin for six months then report back to us.

I actually am obligated to take better care of my diet and such, because i am diabetic. I think i will take up your proposal and take PNV for 6 months , then a multi vitamin for 6 months. One question though: How would i go about testing which vitamin helps with hair growth? I think measuringing the growth for the PNVs and then measuring the growth for multi vitamins? Is this a correct method?
I recommend that if you feel you need vitamin supplements, you should buy a multivitamin intended for adults. The folic acid contained in prenatal vitamins will not make your hair grow faster, it is there to prevent neural tube defects in the growing child.
The reason people say that prenatal vitamins increase hair growth is because pregnant women take them and have fast hair growth. But the hair growth of pregnant women is the result of pregnancy itself and its hormones. Prenatal vitamins are a waste of your money.
By the way, the B vitamin people take for hair growth is biotin, not folic acid.
So folic acid doesnt help hair growth at all? but biotin does? well i still want to try that experement, so should i get biotin vitamins instead ? i wasnt gonna get the "prenatal vitamins" but the folic acid tablets.
A frequently-taken combination for hair growth is biotin (at least 1 mg), silica, and MSM (3g per day).
Be aware that prenatal vitamins also usually have iron in them, and most men not only don't need iron, the extra iron can make them very sick.
