Picture Purged
It seems especially true as of late, that the summer has brought with it a lot of board pollution. What I mean by board pollution are those posts that seem to be repeated over and over again by newcomers or otherwise. Example:
1) Should I cut my hair?
I honestly dont care if you do or not, but someone posting this question no matter how bad they look with longer hair, must expect that they will receive a biased and not necessarily truthful answer at this board. So I refrain from answering a question such as these and the ones that follow
2) Should I comb/cut my hair in _____ style or in ______ style?
3) Am I going bald?
4) Should I get a trim?
5) My moms making me cut my hair!
To respond to these once and for all: Dont ask people at internet forums how to cut your hair, yes YOU ARE going bald, if you think you look too shaggy then yes you probably do need a trim, and finally, cut it or move out!
Maybe Im just being bitter but I hate board litter, especially ones that saturate worthy posts which bring out how bright some of the members are. Maybe Im taking the board too seriously but I dont want this board to become a pit-stop on the net, without any personal attachment in some way.
To make this board be all the board it can be, I am hereby starting a board revolution where all annoying posts will now go unanswered. Who shall join me? CHARGE!
LOL!
Very good... I do understand your point, but if those posts went unanswered then there'd be no new posters... some people just need that little bit of support or advice.
And yes, it does get a little repetative, but if you don't want to reply, then don't. We all have that choice.
Personally, I'll only post a reply if something in the original post strikes me. So if I'm tired of answering the same thing then I'll stop. But we need to support these guys as much as we can.

Sorry this is so far wide of the mark as to be contemptable!
Many people come to this Board because they have just found it and want help or advice how to deal with specific problems they face. That is what we are here to do help, advise and support each other.
At 50+ I have learned some good advice from people here in the last twelve months which I dearly wish I could have had 35 years ago.
I welcome all newcomers and if the oldies have seen their problems before so what? If we don't help those wanting to grow long hair then we are the poorer NOT those who lose the benfit of our advice.
I risk the wrath of our Leaders for this off topic subject but it has to be said and some idea that we are here to be aloof from genuine problems is nonsense.
No way. With the issues you raised above, I think we should help these people, and give them helpful advice, as it has always been, to take away with them. I believe as long as they observe the rules, are never rude or use foul language, and genuinely need help, I have no problem in responding to their posts. Often, this website is their last resort, and they depend upon us for help and honest advice. That is what they frequently receive. Of course the Men's LONG HAIR hyperboard is slightly biased, but this is here for people who really want to grow their hair long who are in the awkward stage, and is useful on focusing their mind on the goal.
If a person posted here asking whether they should cut their hair in such a style, as long as they include a picture, I would be more than happy to help.
Again, if someone posted asking are they going bald, as long as he includes a photo of their head, some background information about his family, whether he is suseptible to MPB, and as long as Absalom is present to do the incredibly cool calculations, I don't mind their posts either:)
Now, if someone posted asking whether they should have a trim, or not, I would offer my personal honest opinion so long as they post a picture also so we can see what state the hair is in.
I have no problem with these posts at all. And most others don't either, so sorry mate, but I can't be in this revolution thing. Sorry!:)
Welcome to forum-life.
Is this a forum of gentlemen and ladies? Just because someone asks the *same* question that has already been asked and answered nine times before doesn't mean that they *know* the other nine guys. It doesn't mean that they heard the answer any of the previous nine times. Yes there is a FAQ and there are good reference materials. But when someone is just getting started they may not even know where to begin. In my opinion the gentlemanly thing to do is to welcome newcomers and patiently give them the guidance they need to get started in this community. Giving a snide or flippant answer to a well-worn question is as easy as being a 'punk'. Giving a thoughtful and helpful answer to such a question is the harder and, in my opinion, the more rewarding path. It is the path of a gentleman.

I'm sure one of the admins could just make the link to the faq read - ''Please read this before posting''..it might help cut down on such posts. But none the less this board is for support and a community of people brought together by a common goal. We should do our part where and if we can to help others. Before I came across this board..I knew nothing..had no idea if there was something special I had to do to grow my hair long and was probally as clueless as most anyone who starts posting here.
Now..almost a year later I'm alot more enlightened, even though the board and people have changed..I still remember when Tryen used to post.. exscuse if I mispelled the name..its been a while :). But if it weren't for people like him, Gollan and others, I'd be pretty clueless.
All of us have asked these questions--or benefitted because someone else did--at one time or another. And some of us have been reading the repeat questions for longer than others. It's part of being on the board. It's not pollution--its a sign of new longhaired men! And, just because a question is on the board doesn't mean you have to read it. So, be patient, skip what you don't want to read, and welcome to all the newbies.

I consider this a very WARM, kind-hearted community that is
sensitive
to the needs of others...
especially of those who are experiencing the very SAME problems
we ourselves experienced.
You are correct in pointing out that a lot of the questions and
replies
are repetitive,
but that seems to bring out the kindness and sympathy of this this
wonderful Longhair community.
It would be easy to say, "Go look it up in the archives," but
then what would happen to the amazing camaraderie that makes
this place so great?
May we need to practice patience by answering those oft-repeated questions--the same patience that
makes it possible for us to grow our hair long
I thought about it; but I couldn't resist the temptation to answer.
I really disagree. Even if everybody asks the same questions that have the same answers to, we all think our case is unique. That's part of why doctors are so important. If we could just look up the same symptoms in a medical book and get the diagnosis then doctors won't have to do much but heal. But we all consult doctors 'cause we always feel like our case is different and we need special attention. Things like this are important to us, especially if it's a matter of great concern like cutting hair, losing hair, changing style, etc. I really believe the personal attention we give to each other here is a great thing.
Love,
Kiat T.
If this summer has brought anything different to a normal summer, it is a lot of newbies. That has to be good, as it should mean more longhair than before.
It may not be interesting to us to see questions that we have seen a dozen times before, but it does give us the opportunity to help others in the same we we were helped when we were newbies.
So, I think most of us would agree that even if the question is familiar, we should do our best to help. If somebody has already given a good answer, we can ignore that thread and read the others.
I once went into a car repair place and saw a guy there wearing a shirt with that guy's face on the inside. I just had to ask the boss if he knew that guy was wearing his shirt inside out and why? He told me that there were some very unhappy people that had seen him in it and warned him to take it off but since he had no other shirt to wear it so it wouldn't be seen. It was like holding up a neon sign saying "come put your boot to my glutes!" or something like that. He went on to tell me that man is not exactly someone to look up to and was very well hated in this part of town. So, who is he? I think I have heard his name but not what he did to make him famous. I have also seen his face on a wall somewhere downtown.
Dr Ernesto 'Che' Guevara. The 'Dr' indicates an MD in his case, something that not too many people realise about him. He was better known as a Communist revolutionary in South America, and died by assasination in Bolivia.
Obviously, there are a lot of Americans who are very anti-Communist, hence the inside-out shirt. However, even though I certainly don't count myself as a Communist, I regard Che Guevara as something of a hero, as do many who have nothing to do with the Communist party. He dedicated his life to freeing people from oppressive dictators in several countries that weren't his own. Of course, the US may have been supporting the dictators he was trying to overthrow...
