Hey Ste, or anyone else that knows,
(Sorry this is so long!!!)
In a thread I made last week you posted the following:
Well I think maybe that's the problem I need solved- I find that a) my hair gets too dried out and puffy if washed too much, and b) it seems to get build up very easily.
So here's the deal for me: I have hair that's not so dry anymore because I've been taking good care of it, but it's still on the dry side, very thick and can get poofy, and it's wavy. It's also about 4 or 5 inches long.
I just want a shampoo conditioner combo that won't be too harsh on my hair, nor will it build up. Maybe something sulfate and cone free? What I want is also something that will help my hair stay smooth down on my head, have loose waves, and feel soft. I really want a decrease in volume. I'm also not big on any type of leave-in or serum/gel.
So, given all this information, what can you reccomend for me? I greatly appreciate you taking your time for this, thanks!
Sid
Hey! well I totally recommend (if you can get hold of it!) MOP C - system hydrating shampoo and daily cond. You dont even really need a cond after it, its that good! also it is cone free so there is no chance of buildup, an sulphate free. I still however use the daily conditioner in the same range and sometimes use a bit as a leave in from time to time but with this combo I do not need to use a leave in and my hair is smoother than any other poo ive used, it has volume but not poofy volume. It would be great for wavy/curly hair since it is humactant rich. It is also ph balanced for hair.
It is not the cheepest of shampoo's/cond's out there tho, id rec a baby one but they seem to be very specific to your location, if you where in the uk id say try boots baby me all over hair and body wash which is like washing with water but it cleans a bit. I would get the mop tho if you can find it (online) www.lookfantastic.com is a uk site that stocks it or at least you can see what it looks like there.
Hey Ste,
Well I looked up Mop C- and it does seem good, although alittle too expensive for me, and I don't live in the UK. ANy other good sulfate and cone free products you know of? Or can you give me any more info on the baby shampoos that could work? I live in the US, in Southern Illinois. Thanks a ton!
Hey, hhmmm well basically your looking for one without sodium/tea/ammonium - lauryl/laureth sulphate. I wouldnt recommend any that said 'no tear' formulation as they are made at the ph of the babies eye which is not the right ph for your hair. Anyhows if you go into say 'walmart'(?) or somewhere and look at the baby washes (a body wash will do so long as it doesnt have any of the listed above things). All of the johnsons ones are crap for starts so rule them out, your best with the little known ones or ones that say sensitive on them or organic. You'll have to scour where ever you shop at the ingredients lists. I'm sorry but I cant really recommend a baby wash/poo that is avail in the US that I know of, but im sure there are good ones.
Alternatively you can look for the same lack of the above in a facial cleanser, but once again I cannot recommend any US brands as I dont know what avail there in shops. I think neutrogena have a new sensitive face wash out or something but ive not seen the ingredients for it yet but i hear it good on your face so it should be a very mild shampoo.
Good ingredients to look for are glycerin and sodium pca they're humactants so attract moisture, also penetrants like glycols help to hydrate your hair too.
Best of luck! post your findings... it may be something you need to experiment with if you dont find the right one straight away : (
Well I looked for the baby shamps today at our Super Walmart, but found none except for Johnson and Johnson, which you advised against. So I'm gonna have to look somewhere else, I suppose...
By the way, I know the shampoo is horrible, but how about the Conditioner Suave Tropical Coconut? I don't see any cones or anything. Here's a link to it:

If that doesn't work, here's the ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Distearyldimonium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Glycerin, 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropan-1,3-diol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Propylene Gylcol, Silk Amino Acids, Honey (Mel), Nettle (Urtica Dioica) Extract, Rosemary (rosemarinus Officinalis) Extract, Coconut (Cocoa Nucifera) Extract
How do the conditioner's ingredients look? Thanks.
Sorry to hear that, perhaps someone from the US can recommend a brand? The conditioner looks good, ideal for daily use, and its cone free which is great in the long run, its the sort of one you may be able to get away with washing your hair with since it in theory should have little buidlup. You could try this once in a while.
If you can only find johnsons, you could try thier tip to toe body wash for babies as I believe it is sulphate free, or at least very low sulphate and see how it goes, its only cheap too so if its no good you can use it as a shower gel or handwash?...or even facial wash if you wish.
Hey Ste, I've just added Mop C system to my birthday list.
So far it's a Nintendo Gamecube, a copy of SSX Tricky, a copy of 1080 Avalanche, and Mop C system shampoo and conditioner.
My birthday is in less than a month, so let the good times roll lol:)
lol, good to hear, i hope you like it!! make sure its the hydrating one you get and not the 'clean' shampoo. You may prefere to use another conditioner afterwards its your choice, but I like the mop one myself.
The actually have two in the range one is the daily one and the other is the reconstructing one, i use the daily one, but since ive started to use straightners I may get the reconstructing one next time to add some protien.
i have the same exact hair as you and it would look like crap. but once it got past my ears it looked better
