Hey people,
Well, I've been thinking more and more this week and last week, about getting a trim. I'd really like to get a trim on the back, just to cut off any damaged ends and to make my hair appear less of a mullet, as well as to thicken my hair. My question is that would a trim make my hair more managable and also make my hair appear thicker, intead of thinner at the ends? Logic tells me that by having a trim, the ends will look thicker, am I right?
I've been orserving the 2 week rule, I'm nearly come to the end of it, and even now I still want a trim. I want half an inch cut off the back, and possibly the sides too. That will grow back within 18 days for me, so length should be made up quickly. Then here's the other qustion, is there any point of having a trim when my hair grows so fast?!
I've included a pic, I just took it right now. Would a trim help my hair look much better, judging by my photo?
Do you all think I should leave it until December until the trim instead?
Comments, questions welcome:)
P.s, my hair has been growing for around 9 months since a very short haircut, practically a buzz, as most of you are aware of.

See what a difference 2 months can make:)
Hi Surferdude,
Your hair looks great! It certainly has grown longer since the last time I saw a progress pic of it. As for the trim, I think you should wait a bit before going for it. At least just let it reach your shoulders and then perhaps get a trim.
I don't think by getting a trim that it will make your hair more managable or look thicker. You already have a nice bounch of hair. But that's only my suggestion. :o)
Keep it growing - don't trim too soon.

Surferdude, I say just go with the flow of your growth. Your hair and its texture look terrific from the photos. Your longer hair has really done a lot for your looks...more mature and handsome. I just say to keep it growing and enjoy your progress. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Gettin a trim would seem pointless to me.
na man dont trim it looks fine and i doubt theres any damage...i got a question..didn u say ur hair grows like an inch a month? if im right shouldnt it b alot longer? or has da growth rate slowed down? jus curious man, peace.
Hey,
My growth rate varies a lot every month. Some months I grow an inch, some 0.90 of an inch, but at least, more than 0.75 inches at any given month:)
Dude, your hair looks AWESOME. I seriously wish I knew how to get mine so perfect! I really mean this too, your hair looks great. Incredibly healthy, shiny, and good texture. In my opinion, a trim would just deter this- I say let it be as it is! Great work man.
Nothing about your pic says to me that you ought to trim anything. It looks healthy, thick and shiny. Resist the urge to "do" something. It is quite common to feel that one ought to be doing something around things that are important to us.
To me this is one of the great "wisdom" lessons of growing out our hair: you don't have to do anything. Can you walk with that for a while? If so, you get long hair. If not, you get lots of trims that make you feel like you're doing something.

Your hair looks great, Surferdude. I wouldn't trim yet, if I were you. It looks full enough and healthy. Wait a while...:-)

...Surferdude. As far as trims go, I think that's a very personal decision. I remember going to the salon years ago and sitting in the chair ready for a trim and my hair stylist said, "Why are you here?" I asked her, "Well, aren't I supposed to get my dead ends cut-off every few months?" She replied, "You don't have any. Go home." She explained that the whole split-end thing is a fallacy. In other words, you don't need to trim your hair for damages...unless you have damages! I agree.
As far as the mullet concern. This is where I think it gets personal. The first time I grew out, I had a mullet for a bit. The second time, I kept getting trims until it was all one length. This time of growing, I had a mullet for a little bit. It comes down to: How do YOU want your hair to look while growing it out? If you don't want the mullet, get the trim. If you don't care, let it grow. Personally, I only think this question could be answered by you.
In summary, don't trim unless 1) you have damages or 2) you don't want the mullet look while growing out.

Surferdude, the back of your hair looks almost exactly like my back did before i got mine trimmed. But it all depends on your goals. i want my hair to be leveled out, so i trimmed, but what are your goals? id say, if you dont want it level , dont trim.but whatever you do,we respect your desicion
My back of my head:
I would suggest avoiding trims unless you really enjoy the awkward stage a whole lot. Your hair appears to be in good shape but you need to be patient and let it grow. Absalom
You're in the awkward stage now. In order to get through it as quickly as possible, it's best to *not* get a trim. It would be different if you were close to your target length, but I'm assuming you want it a lot longer.
Actually SurferDude,
I'm thinking about getting a trim too, for exactly the same reason I want my ends to look thicker and blunter. Yes, a trim is he logical way to achieve this. Though you gotta remember that you and me are at different stages.
The back of my hair is now well past my shoulders, yours isn't. Until your hair clears your shoulders, your hair is always going to bunch up at the back and you won't see the benefits of the trim. Though you'll see the benefits at the front and sides, plus provided your stylist only cuts half an inch you'll not take long to recover the length you loose. Though your hair actually might "look" longer as your ends will be more defined.
I encourage you to wait as long as possible, but if you are noticing damage then the time is probably about right.
Whats more, if you trust your stylist, then you haven't got much to loose. your blessed with fast growing hair so even if he/she snips too much your gonna recover quickly.
Sorted
I'm still a "short hair" so it's not expert advice, but I think your hair looks great. Let it be.
DON'T DO IT....
