I see guys here who've on average only had to wait about 8-10 months for it to be able to be put in a ponytail. I trimmed it slightly before the summer (june) and before that it was the same length as it is right now (front bangs barely BARELY touch tip of nose and the bottom neck hair is about 1 or 1.5 inches long, also the hair on the very top of my head is about 6 inches and sides reach mid-ear....hope that was clear enough, lolol) How long do i have to wait and what should i do for optimal growth in shortest time? Also, is it good that the back hair is shorter a bit, that way the hair on top of it will stop it from flipping upwards excessively? And lastly, what can i do about the sides flipping upwards? straightening?
Hair grows at different rates for different people. Don;t get disappointed. All I can tell you is to either use bandanas or mousse (not gel). You can expect to wait as long as 14-18 months of growth for a really decent ponytail. The flips will straighten into waves with length. The most important thing is just to deal with it, grin and bear it until it starts to look good. And keep trying, you may be able to tie a tail sooner than you think.

Not everyone starts at the same length. Some guys here started from virtually no hair, others had a good amount of hair to start with. Just be patient and don't worry about trying to be on anyone else's timetable than your own.
I started from a shaved head which leaves me about 6 to 7 inches at the end of the year. I will probally be able to put it in a pony tail by 14 months from NOv 2003. Of course I won't put in a pony tail till it looks good, so I'm probally looking at May 2005 before I can wear it as a style.
