I have slightly wavy, thicker long hair down to about the middle of my back which has always been one length. Maybe out of boredom I am wanting to change, so what do you think of adding layers? I need to keep the layers long enough to pull it back, but it might be interesting. Any suggestions?
i've got wavy hair too. . .i used to have it all one length just below the shoulder. . .recently i got it layered and i really like it! not quite as bushy this way, and i look less like a triangle head. you DO want to make sure to not get layers cut so high that you can't pull it back though. . .although an occassional bang here or there fliping out looks pretty good. . .and if you don't like it, you've still got length, so its just a matter of those layers growing back out. try it!
A friend of mine who had very long and thick hair (not wavy) was fed-up with the weight of it hanging down in a lifeless way (it reached his elbows). While travelling, he decided to get it cut, and thankfully, the barber coaxed him into a trim with layers. The back remained one uniform length (with about 2-3" trimmed off) and the layering was only along each side, about a 4" width on each side. The first layer was chin length and was long enough that it could be pulled back into a ponytail, and there were two other longer layers. The barber had tried this on other longhaired men, and he felt that the secret was not to have too many layers or it would resemble Farrah Fawcett's famous 'do of the late 70s, and he also felt that if the layers included the back, men felt uncomfortable with it as it was deemed too "feminine."
My friend looked great with it, and kept the layered look for about two years. He preferred wearing his hair loose, and at one length, it was far too weighted down; the layers really livened up his look.
I would certainly recommend it.

Michael
