so after I decided to grow my hair long, i now need some advice. While it is growing out, what can I use to keep it in place and not have it look all messy and sticking up everywhere. I need something that will keep a lot of hair in place and bangs out of my eyes. It has to look extremely professional or else it won't work. Is gel or hair spray good for curly, slightly bushy hair. This is something I won't have to worry about until next fall when it will be very long(for me), but I want to start preparing now.
Gel's the way to go. I have thick hair, and during this transitional phase that's how I'm doing it. It's reminiscent of Michael Douglas in "Wall Street"--very slick and groomed until you get to the little ponytail in the back, but it looks good.
I know what you're dealing with... I have had my hair long in back for a long time, but just recently (early January) started growing out the rest, and now the front is to chin level- not long enough to pull back, but quite long enough to get in the way. I have very thick, coarse, wavy hair that doesn't like to stay where I put it, so I have found that brushing it straight back and as flat as I can and using plenty of hair spray works wonders. Spraying the hair back also gives a surprisingly professional appearance... very much like a classic business hairstyle.
Have you considered micro dreds? They palm roll them real tight and thin. They'll lay relatively flat. They're pretty cool and you can see them (if you look hard) on Eddy Murphy in Dr Doolittle. He played a very conservative, professional. I wouldn't worry so much about waht other people think. It's how you carry your mane that makes the difference.
