Picture Purged
Ok I posted before without a pic and now I have one. I was wondering how stupid exactly does my hair look right now, how much longer until the curing in the back goes down, and when will it be the length of Kurt Cobain's hair? Also to get his look do you basically just not wash/comb your hair? And will my hair type be able to grow hair the way his was? Any help is much appreciated, thanks so much!
1) You hair does not look "Stupid" right now... your growing it out and it looks remarkably under control.
2) You have wavy hair the curling at the back won't go down until your hair is past your shoulders and longer than mine is at the moment. I'd say about 12 months time. You could always keep triming the back up, every 3-4 months, so that the top layers have chance to catch up, this will result in your hair being all one length (like cobain.)
With more hair all falling to same length the extra weight will keep the back in place and less likely to curl.
3) Again your hair will all reach cobain length in about 12 months time maybe sooner if you hair grows quickly. Though your hair is unlikely to ever look like his as your hair is wavy and cobain's was straight. Its better to pick a long hair role model who has a similar hair type to yours.
4) Once you get to your desired length, don't follow Cobains hair care regime... it sucked... From what I've heard he washed his hair once in a blue moon and then only with a Bar of Soap. You have to look after your hair much better than cobain otherwise it'll look god awful... (God knows how Cobain got away with it!) Buy a Good Shampoo, Conditioner, comb and brush and be gentle with your hair.
But don't delude yourself, your hair not likely look like cobain's without the aid of a straightner.

I like your hair dude is it different from mine?
Our hair types are similar, both quite thick and with a natural wave. Mine falls slightly straighter from the top these days due to the weight in the length, (which is only 11 inches). But its still quite wavy around the back particularly where the hair hits my shoulders and gets pushed outwards & flips. I think you can expect yours to do pretty much the same.

I think your hair looks really good. You are in the midst of the awkward stage, so to speak, and you are lucky that it's not a bad look.
You will never be happy with your hair as long as you want it to look like someone else's. Your hair looks like you. Your hair is thick. It has body. It looks to me like it will always have some waves in it. Guys on this board with straight hair who don't like their own hair would do most anything to get what you've got, and vice-versa.
Relax. Enjoy your hair. If you insist on it looking like Cobain's, though, you probably should just keep it short. YOu really have good hair and a good look--already.

How come so many people like kurt kobain's hair so much? I was not into listening to his music and the few times I saw his picture it looked like poo all sweaty and uncombed. I like Fink's picture of that prince of monaco better. A very good example that suits and longish hair are incompatible. Besides, who would ever tell a prince to cut his hair (besides his mother)?
Stupid? No way Man! Looks great!!!!!
I think you will find that as the back hair grows longer and clears the shoulders that things will be a whole lot straighter. Just a guess...........about 6 months.
Sorry I can't help with the "Cobain" question. Everyones hair is so different, and to get another exact look is almost impossible. But............I am sure you can come close to it.
Good luck in achieving your goal.
You can always mess it up a bit if you want that Cobain look'
but don't skip the washing & combing.
The washing will keep the bad odors away,
while the combing out (especially as your hair gets longer)
will keep the knots and tangling down to a minimum.
We have all been through that curling in the back;
the only 'cure' for this is LENGTH.
How MANY more inches? Hard to say, as your hair seems to be VERY thick
and THICK hair can really hold those curls + flips!
FLIPS are a curse...no doubt about it.
Will you survive? Hopefully, as this has to be one of the main 'TESTs'
of endurance that one has to go through to get 'to the other side'!
In the meantime, there are many tips for dealing with the Awkward Phases (usually more than one kind)
and for coping with those curls and flips, especially in the back of your head.
And I am sure others gave fill you in on those.
Anyway, know this: every inch that you do add to your length
will be helpful in taming your problem hair.
Good Luck on your Journey!
First off - long hair definitely works well with your face. How far does your hair reach if you pull it down? At a guess I'll assume close to your top lip. I was at that stage in April/May of this year and now it is past my chin, so like Justin said give it 6 months or so. Sorted covered everything else!
Like everyone else I'd recommend against not washing your hair. It is just as easy to achieve the grunge look while having clean hair. There is a guy who I sometimes see at a bar that looks exactly like Kurt, and his hair is fluffy and super clean.
Keep us updated with progress pics - it'd be cool to see how the weight of longer hair ends up affecting your style. You actually remind me of another musician but I can't think of his name.

dont worry about those curls in the back, it will be gone before you notice (believe me, my hair is exactly as yours) 5 years ago when I had long... long hair, and was going through that phase, I was very close to cutting it, but dont! because in a few months.. maybe.. 5 months, your hair will be long enough to untangle by itself, so your back hair wont be curly anymore, and I know because thats what happened to me. it will just be wavy, and look really cool. what I did is I waited when it was long enough to make a tiny pony tail, and when I was at home I would tie it up, than when I left the house I would take it off and it would leave my hair all wavy on the back, so it might help a bit overcomming that stage.
oh and about the curt cobain look.. if I remember well, I believe he had veru straight hair.. so you might want to get your air straightened or something, personally, I dont like copying other hairstyles because at the end it wont look exactly like you want it to look hehe..so its a pain, but if you really want to go for it, start out by straightening :P
Thanks all so much for your help. Yeah my hair is pretty thick and I think it takes a while to grow, I havent had a hair cut since November and back then it was like verrrry short, maybe 1/4 inch on the top. Anyhow if I get it straightened how long will that last for? This is the 4th maybe 5th time I have tried to grow it long but I always got frusterated, then like 2 months after i get it cut I think about how damn long it would have been if I didnt cut it, so I wont be cutting it this time. And when I pull it down it goes real far like probably the middle of my mouth. Thanks again for all your help guys and any replies about the straightening are most welcome! Oh and one more question to get that Cobain look should I have it cut now or just continue to let it grow, and then shape later? Thanks!
Grow it out then shape it. Otherwise you'll just end up in a continuous awkward stage.

I do not believe hair straightening is so much for those big flips in back,
since those are cause by the hair hitting the neck and would
probably reform themselves after a few days,
Hair straightening is for relaxing curly hair and smoothing out
excessive waving.
In the months ahead, you may go through some of the toughest times ever.
O, it can get really awful at times.
Some people think long hair is almost feminine and easy to do...
BUT if they only knew just HOW difficult it was
they would realize that it is more like a
a true TEST OF YOUR MANHOOD!
And ANY man who can withstand the onslaught of comments from others
and how embarrassing it can get at times would realize that
it takes a 'real' man's endurance to survive it ALL!
Not only that, but your OWN HAIR will turn against you at times!
Now I am not trying to get you worried about what's ahead,
but you should prepare yourself for some tough times ahead.
Still, for those who are able to scale the cliffs of resistance...
there will be the all rewards of being a Longhaired guy...
along with all its pleasures.
So Good Luck on your Journey and
keep coming back to this great Board for
all the support you will ever need!
You hair looks good and will look awesome when it gets really long. Your hair type differs from Curt Cobain's which means it is unlikely you can make it look like his. Your hair is much wavier than his. To avoid a lot of frustration it would be best to find a hair style that works for your hair type. Absalom
Why do you say it is wavy? I am not disagreeing I just dont understand, I thought everyones hair flipped up in the back in the awkward stage? All of my hair is straight except for the back, but I dont know much about hair at all.
