Picture Purged
Well I have been following the board for quite some time. I've always loved long hair - and was jealous of those guys with beautiful the long straight hair.
Well I don't have that alas, but I've always loved the feel of long hair - so here goes my attempt. Its been about 2.5-3 months now since I started.
My hair is wavy/curly enough to be starting to get messy and curl up all over the place - whereever it damned well feels like it. I know this is the awkward stage - but damn I guess it's going to be awhile. I just wished I knew if it was going to ever look like anything or not!! :-D
Ya ya, "patience grasshopper, patience" :-D
Either way, instead of just lurking - thought I would say hi!
Joel,
Welcome! Of course it's going to look like something, and if you do practice that patience, you will be surprised. Several here have noted, and I am one of them, that for a man, growing out his hair in this culture can be a life changing experience. For me, one of the reasons is that it made me face my own expectations, fears, projects, etc. And it brought me to a place of decided to accept who I am, how I am.
Your hair is going to be great long. Thanks for sharing the pic and your website. Hope to see you out of lurk-dom often.
Robert
Good luck with your hair. I liked the "I learned" quote on your website. I hope it's okay that I am passing it on to some of my special friends. Peace. :)
I didn't write it --- but I think it is basically in the public domain at this point. Glad you liked it...
It reminded me of a poem called "If" by Rudyard Kipling. (Way too long for me to post here.) I am not a poetry person, but I liked this one. :)
Welcome!
You look like you'd really suit long hair, so please do stick with it. It can be a trying thing, but so worth it once you start approaching the 'longhair' stage, coming out of the awkward stage... I think I'm over half way through the woods, and I can see daylight at the other end now :)
A goatee, or chin beard, or some facial hair often suits guys with longer hair, and it'll give you a little more security when you're in the awkward stage (which I feel makes many people look quite young).
Anyway - cheers to the start of your journey :)

Welcome Magnawave, It will require a lot of patience to grow your hair long since it is wavy. Your hair will straighten out a bit as it gets long due to the pull of gravity. The best thing is to visualize how great it will to look when it gets long and don't lose sight of that vision. Good luck and happy growing. Absalom
Welcome, Joel!
And hey, nice web site! 1993! 1995 for me. Guess we got into the Internet back when it was a much more technical hobby, and you had to acquire the skills to "roll your own".
Happy growing!
Yes indeed we did - when it was mostly still ".gov" and ".edu" domains -- and maybe you still remember Mosaic - the first web browser -- before Netscape and IE!! :-D
Its amazing - it seems sooo long ago in technology - yet it really wasn't.
