I have never met someome for whom his/her long hair is important, they would cut it for no reason. There is always a time, for example after a couple of years, they cut it short because they want a "change". Thats ridiculous! It's not more important for them than the fashion shirt they wear. It's not like "I would never cut my hair" or "I would be totally sad if I would have short hair", none I know says it, how about you?
I hope someone is here for whom long hair is important, I feel alone with my opinion. I'm have sort of a fetish for long hair if on men or women, long hair is beautiful and I can't stand short hair.
Why do you see another person's desire for change as "ridiculous?" Usually when a longhaired person (male or female) makes a decision based on the want for change, it is because they've had their long hair for YEARS. My sister-in-law had beautiful hair past her waist. It was golden blonde, and perfectly straight. She looked like Rapunzel. She cut it to shoulderblade-length, because she wanted a change. She had her hair at that length for eighteen years. My piano teacher once had hair down to the back of her knees, but she had to cut it because it started hurting her neck (yes, at extreme lengths, that can and does happen).
As for the whole fetish-type preference, you must admit that some look better with shorter hair. It is natural. Would eyes be beautiful if all of them were blue? There are good-looking people with short(er) hair out there.
Right now, I'm thinking about cutting my hair some time in the semi-distant future (within maybe the next year or two). I'm approaching that time for change. I've had long hair now for over four years. I'm not going to hack it off whimsically, like how everyone thinks of a longhair acting when s/he gets a haircut. It will be a well-measured, thoroughly scrutinized and calculated decision.
There are some on this board who aren't too serious about growing their hair out. On one hand, it should take a little commitment, at least, so that one is motivated enough to take care of it. On the other hand, hair is just hair. It is not something necessarily to fetishize, worship, or obsess over. Shoot me if I'm wrong here, but there are a few on this board who, in my opinion, take it a little too seriously. Nothing personal if you think I'm talking about you (if you are reading this), but if you think I'm talking about you, then you're probably right: I am.
Just a rambling couple of paragraphs for you.
I have the same oppinion about my hair. I love it, and i would never cut my hair again, and i would be totally sad if i had to cut mine.thats just how i am.
I thought i was the only one with a long hair fetish. My freinds make fun of me when i see a guy or girl with beautifully long hair and im like " WOW!! His or her hair is awesome!"
After already growing my hair twice, then cutting it, I made the final desicion to let it grow again once and for all. I love having long hair, and miss it very much.
When I first grew it out it was cause I loved heavy metal, and I wanted to be in a metal band (still do). After 5 years when I cut it, I felt empty inside, and uncomfortable about my image. I knew I needed a change though cause I battered it with a hairdryer and used harsh brushes everyday.
The second time it grew I thought I could just grow it without maintaining it. I never used conditioner, so by the time it got down to my chin, I had many split ends. So, I just cut it gradually until I went nuts and shaved my head.
Im trying really hard now to let it grow again once and for all. Its just something I know I want, and shouldve put more effort in taking care of better. Thats why I come here and ask questions. I dont want to go through the same unhealthy routines I used to, which forced me to cut my hair in the first place. Everytime I see someone with perfect long hair, Im like, thats cool, I want that! When I get old I want to look like Gandalf! LOL!
Life is very short. Why not take the plunge and go for it?
BTW Gandolf had beautiful hair but them I'm the wrong person
to ask. I'm biased.
Hey, thanks for your reply. To answer you question there, Im actually forming my own band now, Ive been in several projects, but never happy with the results. Forming a band is like forming a business, and its a very expensive hobby too, hehe. Anyway, not having long hair feels awkward when I play guitar nowadays, I cant wait to get it past my chin this time.
About gandalf, I just think it looks cool when elder people have long ass grey/white hair!
My hair is very important to me and is part of my identity. I guess I am a bit obsessive about my hair and I love seeing beautiful long hair on others too. It would be nice if there were more people with waist length or longer hair. Absalom
I agree with what Absalom said. My hair always has been, is, and will always be, of EXTREME importance to me. If that means that some people will think that I take my hair too seriously, then so be it!
I like long hair - the feel of it and the fact that it is noticably different. Being in Scotland, wearing a kilt looks good with long hair. Trouble is there's so few guys around these days in my part of the world with long hair.

My hair is of very high importance to me. It's who I am. It makes me feel good and makes me comfortable with myself.I've always thought I would look better with long hair. I felt and looked weird with short hair. It looked extremely messy when it grew out after about three weeks of not cutting it. Now after 17-19 months of growing my hair i'm finally satisfied with my looks. I will be even more satisfied when my hair gets past my shoulder blades, and to be able to put it in a full ponytail without having the front part of my hair falling out and when my hair starts to tame down a bit more as it's still in the wild stage.
Peace,
Mark
I don't remember what it's like having anything other than long hair.

This phenomenon has always struck me as odd too. I can't imagine going back to short hair, and I've only been growing it for two years! Though I imagine some people grow their hair for various reasons, and once that reason is fufilled, they change. Their reasons are just as legit as anyone else's.
That "Ball" Guy
i think...
long hair is beautiful
short hair is beautiful
bald people are beautiful...
depending on who judges. just don't obsess over it if you want to stay healthy!
i will not cut my hair on my own will, ever. however, if i woke up with no hair i'd just keep not cutting it and wouldn't go crazy because of that. it's just hair, and "I" am not my hair. Neither are you.
take care!

My hair is very important to me. As I mentioned below that I threw one of my tantrums after my trim, I felt like I was out of the game. But, I can never hold a grudge for more than a day. So I'm just looking at the positives now.
Anyways, I like having long hair because it feels like I've found my look for good. It's who I am.
For me, growing long hair has been a lot more important than having it. Now that my hair is longer, it's nowhere near as important, and I think "okay, I've achieved that. What's next?"
For now, I keep not cutting it because I can't think of anything better to do with it. Someday I'm sure that will change, or something will happen in life where I'll decide to try something new. I'll just cross that bridge when I come to it.
There are lots of pepole on this board for whom hair is extremely important. Some have very long hair, some have had long hair fir man years. That is committment.
For myself, although my hair is not as long as I would like it to be (terminal length not enough and slow growing) I have
a) never willingly had my hair cut
b) never paid for a trim or a cut
c)not had even a trim for over 10 years.
I can't think of anything which wuld make me want to cut it, and I am constantly disappointed
a) that it won't grow longer
b) that other people seem willing to destroy or damage something which could be so wonderful
Hair Rules!
I bet if you evened up your hair with a trim, it would grow longer.
