I usually keep my hair really short but my wife wants me to grow it out. When it's long it's naturally curly. I don't particularly like it but my wife does. My question is this: I cut my hair myself with an electric trimmer, which is easy to do when I keep it short. How can I trim it while letting it grow? My goal is to have all my hair the same length. A hairstylist told me to just trim it around the ears until the hair grows down to the ears. But I'm not sure what to do about the back. Any advice would be appreciated.
Forget the trimmer, just let it grow. Curly hair grows well when it is untrimmed.
You should reassess the situation when the longest hair is down to your neckline.
I think the best way to let it grow is just to let it grow. Trim after trim in regular intervals just means ir has to grow back all over again to the prior trim. Perhaps let it go at least a year with no trim? Hair has a way of catching-up all by itself by just leaving it alone. Here I am talking of 2 years. It is at this point I suppose that "if" then you desire the same length all over..........measure the lengths, get an average and go to a good professional with ruler in hand. Tough question for sure, but I am positive you eventually land the answer.
Good luck
don't cut your hair if you want it long
if you don't care enough to simply do it because your wife asks for it, certainly you are carefree enough to let it grow on its own without worrying about what it looks like?

To begin with it's really just as case of letting it grow out. It takes quite a while before it will all be one length but regular trimming at the early stages will unfortunately draw out the awkward phase. Just leave it for a while.
Hope this helps...

Hmmm... Doesn't sound to me like good things are coming your way with this. While growing your hair long for your wife is certainly noble, it takes a lot of patience and care. If you don't really want long hair, then I predict failure for you and dissapointment for your wife.
Sorry to seem so negative, but that's what I see coming.
