i work as a food server at a nice restaurant and i make good money, im also a college student and i always wanted to have my hair long, now my hair is getting longer and my employer told me to cut it off what can i do?
i do not have my parents support with money they live in europe and all i have is this job to live.
you people that have long hair already tell me what to do since you already had this problems.
also tell me what kind of jobs i could look for that pay almost the same amount of money to support myself in this expensive sounthern california place. thanks
deal with your employer
you can wear a net (or a thin piece of cloth) over your hair when you work. That's what I do when I work since i have to deal with food.
you shouldn't have to cut your hair for any reason other than if you WANT it short.

He's not working in a kitchen he is a food server aka waiter a hair net would most likely not be acceptable.
I really don't think his employer will go for that.
If your hair isn't that long at the moment (and so isn't as much a waste of growth if you were to cut it), is it possible to maintain a length abit shorter than present to keep your boss happy? If he/she has only just brought the issue up I'd expect he/she would still be cool with a couple of inches cut off. Then when you leave that job you can restart your journey.
Saying that, how long is your hair & how long until you plan to leave the job?
Matt
my hair gets to my eyebrowns in front my hair is myself and im tierd of being something am not so i dont care if i have to change my job but if i could i whould keep it since is good paid for tips.
In a restaurant I frequent, the manager has straight black hair, cut in the shape of Wolfeyes's avatar pic. It's middle parted and falls near the tip of his nose, I expect he's trying to grow it.
Does the hair length restriction apply to women that work there or just men? If so, you might have a case for discrimination. Changing your hair style may help for a while. You might want to put some gel on your hair and comb it straight back which will keep it out of your face and make it appear shorter without cutting it. Absalom
no lawyer will touch a case like this (unless you really pay him well).
Another option if you have already found a new longhair friendly job elsewhere is to picket outside of the restaurant costing them a lot in lost business. That won't cost a dime. Absalom
Firsty try asking your boss politely why they wish for you to cut your hair. Explain to them your concerns that you would rather not do this and see what the outcome is. Other than that, it still sounds as though it's short-ish so maybe you could gel it back or something?
RM.
Do they ask the women to have short hair too? Did you agree in any way, whether in writing or verbally, to keep your hair at a length they determine? If the answer to either question is NO then it's discrimination. What you could try is to keep your hair in a ponytail, tied up, or in some type of hair net.

the equal protection clause?
Can you explain that one to me? I've never heard of that one.
I think you need to check up on the US plus the state consitiution to see if this is a patent discriminatory practice.
Plus, who wants to date a lady with really short hair? They lose all of their feminity if they have that style (in my opinion).
It is sex discrimination, but the case law in the US has failed to uphold that. Regrettably, he has no case, but the above post makes little or no sense.
What does this have to do with short hair on women? Nothing, as far as I can see.
go hungry and be homeless?
I realize that growing your hair long is what makes you tick, but can you afford to go hungry and/or be homeless?
If you're rich with lots of $, it's an easy decision. Yet, that's no your situation.
If the choice is keeping your long hair or going hungry/homeless, it's a pretty easy one to make, isn't it?
Good luck in your decision.
There are lots of other options. Style it to look shorter than it is (gel, hairband, hide under collar, etc), look for a better job, have a miniscule trim and protest that you did have a haircut and you have the receipt, or even avoid employer/supervisor. Some of these work better than others.
WHERE ALL YOU GUYS WORK?
WHAT DO YOU GUYS DO?
you all have found very good jobs and i want to know where can i find a job like that.
i cant go homeless lol keeping college is not free
I know it may look dumb, but whynot wear a hairnet? Do the women working there have to cut their hair?
