Is it normal for some strands of hair to be lost while washing your hair?
I wash my hair almost every day and during washing a few hairs tend to either break or maybe pluck out! No matter how gentle I am. Washing my hair every day with this happening, I seem to think that it mounts up to quiet a few accidentally plucked hairs every week! Is this normal for this to happen during washing?
When my hairs dry I give it a few comb troughs throughout the day and theres hardly ever a single stand of hair combed out. Its only when I wash my hair this happens. I never use a comb or anything when washing my hair, just my fingers.
Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Grim
The average person loses 100 hairs a day. Not that much of a loss when you realize how many hairs you do have. Infact 100 hairs is almost too few, if you didn't lose that many a day then you end up having one huge hair growing out of your head (speculation and jocularity)
Many thanks for your post. Sure has calmed me down!!!
Cheers
Glad to have helped.
We seem to get this question a lot. Perhaps it should be added to the RAQ?
most people will shed lots of hairs. Washing loosens the
hairs that are ready to be naturally shed daily.
Especially when you do not wash daily, you will notice lots
of hair coming off on the days that you do wash.
Don't worry about it!
Good LucK!
Hi Grim, it is normal to lose more hair when washing it. No matter how careful you are when your hair is wet it is heavy and under under more tension which causes loose strands to shed more readily. Washing also tangles it. To cut your losses try washing your hair about once a week (if your scalp will tolerate it) instead of daily. To achieve maximum length I wash mine about every 7 to 10 days. If you are not concerned with maximum length (like I am) but just want mid back length or so, washing every 2 days or so should be fine. Absalom
Count yourself lucky, I lose 130+ hairs during and after washing it if I leave it unwashed for 7 days. Tends to be a little less if I wash it every 4 days.
