I need suggestions. I'm in my early 40's and work in a professional capacity of a conservative corporate office. Dressing in a suit and tie is expected everyday. I have always been very conservative in my appearance at work.
A few months ago, I decided to try a longer hair style. The top and side are combed straight back, and kept trimmed over my ears. Although pretty conservative in front and on the sides, the back of my hair is about 1" below the bottom of my collar. I generally blow dry the top and sides, but let the back dry naturally, making it pretty curly. I think it looks pretty good, as does my stylist, and am planning to let it grow. If I continue to let it grow, I think a small ponytail might be possible for a weekend look.
A group of us recently met an ex-employee for lunch. I had not seen this person for while. In front of the group, the ex-employee announced that it was time for me to get a trim. This remark was taken lightly by those with us, but I wonder what an appropriate response would have been? I laughed and ignored the remark. Any help for future ignorance?
Here's a couple that came to me when I read your message:
"Sounds like it's time for *you* to get a job -- or a life."
"Oh really? And how 'bout my nails, mother? Think it's time yet for my next manicure?"
"Oh *thank* you *so* much!!! My watch isn't working, so I've just been *waiting* for someone to tell me when it was time! So what do you think of the Dolphins' chances? Think Marino can come back?"
Or that old standby: "Hey! Trim this!!!" Cheers:
