I'm at about 8-9 months growing and awkward stage sucks.I was wondering about hair extensions if they're expensive and will it look funny while my real hair is growing underneath. I know it wont be my real hair bur i will have them removed once my hair starts to "behave".
From what I've heard from people that have had extensions is that they look nice, but they aren't really the healthiest thing for your hair, as they are often super-glued (or some equivalent) in.
I'd suggest seeing a professional stylist and talking with them about it (though take what they say with a grain of salt. . .they may be biased towards them).

From what I recall (my ex-g/f was a beautician/hair-stylist) they are only great for a short while (month or two?). You cannot properly, if at all, wash your hair with them, the glue(s) are a PITA, etc. I would recommend you Google for hair extensions and read, read, read.

Last summer, when I was in that same awkward stage as you seem to be in, I got extensions. They looked great... on the first day. They looked pretty good on the second day. They looked good on the third day, fair on the fourth day...
You get the idea. The biggest problem is this: They glue the extensions to your scalp with a latex adhesive. You can't shampoo. You especially can't condition. You can only rinse, and then you can only pat dry with a towel, you can't rub your head when it's wet. Then you have to try and comb it, but you can't really because you can't run a comb or brush against your scalp. After a few days, the ends start peeling, and you're trying to stick them back to your head with a little bottle of latex adhesive they send home with you. You can't even brush the ends out with a soft camel hair brush, because your hair has become tangled. Your sleep is interrupted because it feels like you have rope glued to your scalp.
The good news is that even some people who I had worked with for two years couldn't tell that I'd had extensions put in - I told them I bought a flat iron. I got lots of compliments, which was good 'cause it encouraged me to stick to my hair growing. I took mine out after 10 days. I just couldn't stand it anymore. The greatest shampoo of my LIFE was when I went through half a bottle of conditioner taking those things off my scalp and got a thorough cleaning. Such freedom.
But it did convince me to dedicate myself to not cutting my hair for a year. That was shortly before my birthday last year, and I vowed to make it to this year's birthday before getting another cut. Somehow, I did it! Yay! And when I finally got a trim afterwards, I was lucky enough to find someone who I could trust and who trimmed only the split ends - maybe half an inch to an inch - and it's made my hair look no shorter, and helped it look much better in the month since then. Before, I thought after the year I'd be over it and get it cut. I still think about that, but until I find a better reason to cut it, I've been letting it continue to grow.
You'll discover that every so often, you'll look in the mirror and realize "Hey! My hair has gotten longer!" and if you take care of it, that will be the best support system you can have to keep growing it out. :)
