Hey guys
I was just wondering if i my hair would get damaged/bald if i straigtened it by blow drying or using one of those moist steam press things...but first if i applied a hair conditioner/hair cream like Parachute Coconut Hair Cream before straightening?
Thanks!
If you MUST use a straightener or blow dryer, at least put a heat protectant gel on your hair first. I believe this will be relatively safe, but you should avoid any heat if at all possible.
I've only had my hair straightened twice, and haven't noticed any damage from them. Lots of the girls at the school told me that it was the cause for the damage and split ends they had. It seems like a rather caustic process to me, and personally I don't think I'll do it again. But hey, to each their own. The worst that could happen (barring some accident) is that you get a bit of damage and have to have a half inch trimmed off.

Hi That "Ball" Guy!
I remember when you posted saying you had it straightened before, do you have any pics of your hair straightened that you'd be willing to share?
I have a couple of photos, but I don't have access to them until the weekend (living at the university during the week). Give me until Saturday or Sunday, and I'll get them posted.

I'd like to see those. I'm curious to see just how different you look.
I happen to think the curly hair works well for you. You have an interesting and unique appearance.
How long ago did you have your hair straightened? What's the difference in length from then to now?
Either way, these pics should be interesting to see.
As for straightening irons, I never really noticed any damage myself when I used them. That doesn't mean I'd recommend them. I think like with everything else, moderation is the key. If you use one every now and then, you're okay. I wouldn't use one every day though.
The difference was only 3-4 inches I guess, but it's hard to see with the curl. . .ah well.
I'll get to them as soon as I can.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to seeing them. I only realized you're sleeping at the Uni AFTER I wrote the post! So it would be much more difficult to get these photo's.
Thanks again.
I've had my hair chemically straightened recently - and I love it! It's the same process as a perm -but in reverse. I had most of my curls flattened. I blowdry it most mornings and use a flattening iron on the ends, which still tend to curl. I put a silk infusion in my hair first, which protects my hair from all the heat from the iron. You can actually see the infusion vaporise in a puff of steam as I use the iron. I would never use the iron without the protective infusion.
I will try to post pics of my hair, but I don't know how to do so.
