Shoulder Length Hair sucks!
Just after your hair has stopped flipping around your ears, it starts to flip around your neck. Just when you think you're out of the woods and your hair is lying flater at the back... the top layers reach your shoulders and flip outwards at the sides again. Damn!
See in the photo that the top layers at the side are kicking out just where they brush against my shoulders... This is latest phase of awkwardness and this is almost 20 months!
OK - I'm not really that upset about it, but Damn its irritating!
Sorted
Sorted,
For hair that supposedly "sucks," it sure looks nice.
Your hair looks great, man! I want mine a little shorter than yours.
You also look like Michael Akerfeldt from the band Opeth.
Lol! I think it looks awesome just like that! It really states that you are a longhair, being able to see it on your shoulders.
I'd rather have hair that length, and that colour, right now, than short hair though. We could swap lol:)
I'd trade in a second. I think it looks awesome.
Well ... Wannabe Samson ... I think YOUR hair is going to look superb in a couple of years!
And Sorted, I think the way your hair piles up on your shoulders looks quite lush and resplendent.
Thanks, Guymarch. I got a litte discouraged about it last night, but I re-committed to keep growing this morning.
You'll go through a couple of awkward stages, having curly hair, but if you stick with it your hair will look great and you'll get lots of admiring glances. Mine is similar to yours in texture so I speak from experience. And curly hair when long can look fantastic.
And don't listen to those "well-meaning" friends and family when they hound you to cut it. Most of the time people have no imagination at all concerning how great curly hair can look starting with two years of growth ... but when they see it for themselves after that period of time, they realize you are on to something.
Email me if you ever want some tips. I've tried lots of things!
LOL, were both on the same page man but i like these flips ALOT better than the ones around the ears. Great hair man!
Yeah definitely better than the flips around your ears... at least the reason for the flip is clear nowadays. Your hair is atleast doing what is visually expected off it... The flips at ear length seem to come out of nowhere!
I think it looks great, what are you complaining about? The flip is part of who and what your hair is, to dislike it is to dislike a part of your own identity. :p
Anyways, great progress! I don't know how tall your are but your hair is relatively longer at 20 months than mine is at almost 24!
Keep it growing.

I think it looks great Sorted. As it gets longer, it will settle down more. Don't worry.

Quit whining - the nusance is a small price to pay for the look.
Have you got a stutter or some kind of speach inpediment?
No matter how you spell it - putting the hair into a tail makes life so much easier. I'm at 22 months.
I feel your pain, Sorted. I think we're both at about the same point in hair growth, with similar hair. Mine does that flip thing at the shoulders as well. It's like it straight down to the chin line, then it gets curly. Ugh. I wouldn't mind one or the other, I just hate having both.
And to some of the other people here, this where we CAN whine because supposedly there are people who will sympathize, if not completely understand. Hey, sometimes I just don't feel like doing the ponytail. Sometimes I wish my hair would just lie flat, but even when I've had it straightned with a chi iron, it still flips at the shoulders. That's just part of awkward stage part two (which admittedly is a lot less awkward than awkward stage part one.)
Anyway, great looking hair as always, Sorted!
But it sure looks nice! I sure don't see any need to trim it. Again, based on the photos of when your hair was short, I'd say you have the type of hair texture and face that fits either long locks or a style that's closely cropped. Your hair would be ideal too even if it were fuller or heavier on top, meaning if the follicles were thicker and gave more depth around the crown of your head. However, I think thinner often is more attractive than an overly thick, clumpy type of hair. Just be happy, because I'd say in general you've got the best of both worlds.
i can't wait til my hair is as long as yours, your hair is awesome and it's inspired me to grow my hair long.

Dude, your hair looks great in that photo. The short 'stache and goatee really enhance your looks compared to clean shaven and go very well with your hair. Absalom
Absalom, ever consider what a loaded term "clean shaven" is? As if being bearded or mustached is conversely not clean? What a crock. I'll spare the board what I usually call shaving 'cuz I like and admire many men who are beardless. :-)
Sorted, your hair looks great, so kwitcherbellyachin'. ;-) Oh, for my opinion... keep the facial hair. That is, if you like it!
Take care,
JE
Sorry, I did not mean to offend anyone. What would have been a better phrase to use? Absalom
Oh... no offense! I'm just amused how that term gets used by those who prefer shaved male faces without realizing its negative implications. If anyone might be offended, it would be those with a beard, like yourself, certainly not one like me. I've never managed to grow a beard (chuckle). My husband is not easily offended, either, although I've mentioned this to him more than once when he shaves his neck area (he is bearded, too).
Have a great day!
JE
"Clean shaven" can imply that bearded men are not clean, just like "clean cut" can imply that longhairs are not clean. To avoid those unwanted innuendoes, one can use "shaved" and "shorthaired".
As one with a strong distaste for the "political correct police", though, my personal preference is to only call people on such when they are using the terms with derogatory intent.
Bill
Yikes, I was simply noting a common term that is used against bearded men. I wrote in support and cameraderie, or didn't you notice my smileys? Please don't infer malintent on others' parts simply because we speak. Talk about "political correct police"...
JE
The short 'stache and goatee got shaved, it was itchin' my face something chronic! Its bad enough with my hair tickling my face all the time. I'm afraid I'm only gonna put up with one hair annoyance at a time.
Sorted
Hey Sorted
Maybe I'm out on my own here but I think the 'flip' effect is quite cool. Your hair looks quite a lot like mine where you've got it forward over your shoulders. Don't despair, it looks cool.
RM
Due to its springy nature, my hair still does that, so while it is well on to my shoulderblades when wet, the sides in particular still flip around my shoulders.
BTW the stubble really suits you. Perhaps consider growing it?
Quit your bitchin! j/k I'm still way down in the short stages, man, and I'd love to have the length you've got.

About one more month and your topmost ones should be long enough to hang instead of curl up. Patience, Grasshopper. :-)

I think your hair looks F'in awesome! Those flips give it a wicked wylde look.
Stubble is really cool dude!
That looks very nice. Don't worry - it will become less annoying with another foot added.
Ed
Sorted,
Your expressions on your face in your photos always make me laugh. I mean that in a good way. Your hair rocks dude, go with the flow and let your freak flag fly. ( Do people still use that expression?) Flips don't make you flop. :)
adios amigo,
Ck
Ah! It seems to never end.............I know well the irritation of thinking you're there.........and then finding out that you are not quite.
Alas, even at my almost mid-back stage there are still little flips! But at least you have stuck it out this long and the "Big Flip" stage will most likely be a thing of the past shortly.
Even with the "flips," your hair looks great!
Maybe its easy for me to say not having shoulder length hair yet, but I think it looks damn good. I always underestimate how long your hair is... anyway keep it going!
