Hey bud, I gots a question for ya...
I remember in some of your older posts you've said that one of the most important things that helped you get through the akward stage was TONS of conditioner!
I used to use smaller amounts of conditioner, as I found that the products I used contained 'cones, and with them, it seems like less is more. But now I've switched to a shampoo and conditioner that don't contain any 'cones. Right now, I only wash every other day. But on days like now when I do wash, my hair is more poofy that it is on non-wash days...
I guess my question, long story short, is: Do you really think using lots more conditioner makes a difference? If so, then I will probably just drench my hair with conditioner while I'm showering. Let me know if you, or anyone else who reads this, feel that "more is better!"
For me using more conditioner makes my hair much straighter. I tend to use half the amount of conditioner to the amount of shampoo that I use. This always gives me a bit of wave to my hair (which I kind of like) and allows me to go for 3 days without washing my hair. If I use same amount of conditioner to the same amount of shampoo my hair tends to go straight but have to wash at least every other day. I've tried many different shampoos/conditioners and they all do the same. I mostly use Alberto shampoo and conditioner but like to try that Mop C that sorted has been using.

I don't recall saying that Conditioner helped me through the awkward stage, but using it helps you emerge from the awkward stage with healthy looking hair and makes detangling and combing so much easier.
Yeah the Cones help reduce the "poofiness" giving you a smoother sleeker look. I've switched to a "Cone free" shampoo & conditioner but it seems to have a number of other ingredients to keep your hair smooth, I'm using MOP C-System Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner.
You should use enough conditioner to make your hair feel smooth and tangle free over conditioning will only cause a build-up.
I tend to over-condition, another reason for my move to the MOP C-System as its a milder cone free Conditioner which it claims doesn't cause a build-up. I suspect there will always be some build-up, just no-where near as much as a cone filled conditioner.
