Hi all,
First of all , I didn't cut my hair for a little more then one year and a half now. But there is something I don't understand with my hair...
How come I don't see any progress ? I mean , my hair seems to be the same lenght now as they were a couple of months ago.(well maybe 2 or 3...) It's like if it was not growing anymore...Maybe it's because they tend to curl , but anyway.
Some people told me that if I get a trim it will stimulate the growth so my hair can grow strong again . Is this true ? Could it help my hair?
Thx
Ok, to tackle your first issue (the no apparent gain in length).
When you're hair is one half inch long, an half inch of growth (approx one month) doubles your hair length. With each consecutive month, one half inch composes a smaller and smaller percent of your hair length, so Absalom with (I think he said) 43" of hair, a half inch is one 86th of his length. . .nothing to get too excited about.
The other possible reason that it seems like you're not gaining lenght is that your hair has passed your face, and therefore you no longer have the reference marks to keep track of. For example, you can tell if your hair has gone from your eyes to your nose, but it's harder to tell when another 2 inches is added below your chin. Just some thoughts.
And for the trimming, no it will not stimulate any hair growth. That is an old fable, and has no basis in reality.
Hope this helps!

Except for the root bulb beneath the skin, hair is dead. The actively growing root has absolutely no knowelege of, nor is it affected by, events beyond the root. Cutting your hair will not affect the root in any manner, way, shape or form.
In other words, cutting your hair does not help it to grow. It just makes it shorter.
Well the cousin of my mother is a hairdresser and she told her all that stuff... So does that mean that what she told her was BS ? lol (she also told her stuff like getting a trim can make the hair look thicker...)
Yeah, it's BS. But, trimming CAN make your hair "LOOK" thicker by removing the ends which tend to be thinner in appearance.
Bah, if you really believe cutting at the end of a hair might affect how the root grows, go for it. Then see if it works.
Otherwise, i'd suggest looking over your diet, doing scalp massages. I also heard strong recommendations for the Ho shou wou Chinese herb to stimulate hair growth (among other things) but i haven't got any yet so i can't speak from personal experience.

Trimming may not stimulate growth, and does not make hair grow faster. What she might mean is if your hair has LOADS of split ends (ends of hair split into a snakes tounge, or V shape), and you are SURE your hair isn't growing anymore, it may be there are too many damaged hairs that reduce your overall growth. For an extreme example, Think if half your hair is split ended, and the other half falls out, as hair does naturally on its own, and the split ends follow all the way up to your roots, then your hair might not grow due to the split ends being shed as well, and you would notice hardly any net growth. But it's very rare for a split end to travel ALL the way up the hair without either being shed, or breaking off. Sorry, I'm rambling a bit here. I'd say unless your hair is full of split ends, dont bother with the trim. You have very healthy hair.
"Well maybe 2 or 3" makes me feel it IS growing. Perhaps try pulling the hair straight and measure it today. Then do the same in Nov. That should let you know for sure.
A trim won't stimulate the hair to grow. (Funny how many people really believe this...........but they do.) And a trim will only prolong the waiting period it takes for you to reach your goal in the quickest amount of time.
