Picture Purged
Sup guys i'm new here to this board and as you can see by my picture my hair is thick and curly/wavy it tends to curl more at the ends and I was wondering how I would go about making the ends more stringy? Would I need to grow it out more?
Next question what combs/brush are the best to use?
Your help is appreciated.
My hair is pretty wavy as well but curls at the ends and I really dont think there is much that can be done that isnt damaging to the hair. Ive been growing my hair for over two years and have just started to relize that there not going to go away with length I don't really mind them that much though. It is possible to work some of them out with constant brushing but they just curl back up eventually.
I have the same hair type, straight, or appears straight from the roots, to a little way down, then very wavy until the ends, where at the very ends, 'corkscrews' form. Couldn't Flyinghigh, and I have only the ends chemically straightened? Yes, I know it's damaging to the hair, but only the ends of the hair, and after 6 months, the damage can be trimmed off? Do you or anyone else know would it work?
It probably would but I wouldnt go through the hassel myself I somewhat like my curly ends.
Hey Surferdude-
Mine did similar to yours at the length you have attained. But now that it is much longer a whole lot has "simmered-down" a bit. BUT...............the very ends NEVER end in but small flips. Your idea of straightening only the ends sounds great! (Must be the creative Musician in you to think that one up.) Bravo!
Speaking of Music........hope the Cello is working out well for you.
All the best-
Justin
Lol, you aren't serious!:) If the flips look unsightly, I might consider it:)
I've had a few lessons so far, but nothing solid yet, nfortunately. I'm trying to prove to my teacher that it would be worth the hassle of her borrowing an unused 'cello from another school to give to me. Hope I can begin some serious music lessons VERY soon! Thnaks for being interested!
Pay for the best teacher you can afford. Take this as advice from someone who knows. :/
Well if you only apply the chemical straightner to the ends then I suppose its a pretty "safe" idea - if things went wrong then you'd only have to trim off the ends, not the whole head of hair.
But you'll probably find that trimming your hair to the same length (or gradually doing do over the course of a year) will give you more definite ends which are less likely to flip, both you have grown without trims so your ends are more likely to be fly-away.
I'd recommend you endure the "corkscrews" which actually sound quite cool :-) until your hair is a couple of inches past your shoulders at the back, then start trimming the hair up at the back so the top layers can catch-up. Do this over the course of a year with 3 or 4 "One-inch-trims" by the end of the year your hair will be virutally all one length, this will keep the lower layers covered by more hair and the weight of the hair on top of them will keep them in place.
OK that's a long term solution to a problem but its better than playing around with chemicals in my opinion.
Sorted
Cool, thanks for your advice. One thing I had not considered whenv thinking of chemically straightening my hair was the cost. I think I remember someone here paying $300 for their whole head of hair straightened, whether they would reduce the price or only charge for standard is up to the salon.
Thanks!
Welcome!
To answer your comb/brush question, a wide-tooth comb would be best to use, as it minimizes yanking.
Welcome aboard!
Jeremy
Yeah, just let it grow longer and it will be longer.
I'd say use no comb/brush at all, and it will also solve your curliness problem ;) I know the hair on my back (the super curly ones) is straighter since it's locked up! :)

Ok, so my previous reply to you got mixed up with Rokker's post. .
Speaking of your dreadlocks, you said a while ago that you were going to post some photos. . . .I was just wondering if that was going to be soon.

Yeah, methinks this forum needs some locking when posts are created!
When i get access to a camera.. Maybe in a couple days, my friend's cam was just repaired so when he picks it up i should be able to send updated pictures.

Your hair has a nice 'look' to it.
Yes, you probably need just a few more inches for the look you want.
Use a wide-tooth plastic comb (not a brush).
This will separate your hair into nice locks. For a more 'stringy' look,
you might want to finish the combing with your fingers only.
Use LOTS of conditioner especially on the ENDS of your hair.
After you rinse the conditioner out and gently towel-dry your hair,
add some kind of hair dressing (like L'Oreal MELTing gel)
and gently combing out your hair with that plastic comb.
Then, as I mentioned before, finish the combing using your
fingers only.
Blessings & Good Luck!
