Is there any way to prevent should lenght hair from moving to either side of your neck so you don't have like an indent in your hair. I'm paranoid about thinning hair so this bothers me because I dont feel a whole lot of hair going down my back when I get this indent
Phillip,
By "indent" do you mean when your hair separates and comes around to the sides of your face and "splits" in the back? Sounds like what you are describing. That's just normal. You have noted your paranoia. Now, just breathe, and let go of it. This is normal for long hair. Mine is thick, and it does this. Your hair, no matter how thick, can't be everywhere at once.
One of the things I think hair teaches us is that we don't have to be in control of everything, and in fact we CAN'T be in control. Just enjoy your hair. Take care of it. Let it be.

I'm paranoid about thinning hair because I have an uncle who was bald before he was 30
Phillip,
don't get me wrong. I did not mean to come across as critical. I can be just as paranoid as anyone about-well, you name it. I am also learning that it's a lot of wasted energy. If I lose my hair, I lost my hair. Life changes.
Heroditus, Greek philosopher, said: you cannot step in the same river twice. Life is awlays changing. But, in the meantime, you can enjoy the hair you have. And you may never lose it, or you might. But, you have it now. It hangs down your back, or shoulders, now. I did want you to know, though, that what you were describing was normal--and not a sign of hair loss, necessarily.

here's another way to look at the problem/situation.
you are paranoid of hair thinning. stimuli X bothers you because of that paranoia.
maybe stop being paranoid?

Feeling paranoid about ANYTHING is a horrible feeling indeed.
I think a lot of people experience that feeling and it's especially
awful when you don't know what the future has in store for you.
About you hair: just because one of your uncles went bald
doesn't mean you will too.
I know two brothers: one is balding but the other one has
the thickest hair in town.
Now, your 'indent' or hair separation can sometimes be
eliminated by combing your hair straight back.
Can you make a tail? Well, if you can
comb your hair straight back. You may have to do this several times.
If you check hair in the mirror, be sure there is no separation in back
of your head.
Next make a tail (if you can).
If this is not possible yet, just let your hair dry straight back.
Experiment: when you comb your hair back, you may have to use a slight 'crisscrossing' action
to make sure your hair does not separate and go off to each side.
Blessings & Good Luck!
When my hair was that length in summer 1976 I had that experience a lot, but the only thing that realy solved it was 9 months growth, by which time it was long enough not to be caught and parted by my neck and shoulders as I moved.
Patience is all that is needed.
I experience the very same thing, as well as the worries about hair loss. Regarding the way my hair parts at the back, I figured it was just because it wasn't long enough to weigh itself down and travel down my back.
As for the hair loss thing, this parting is definitely not a sign of that. Hair at the back is not affected by male pattern baldness. My hair is thickest at the back and it still does the parting thing.
Don't worry about it, there's no reason to :)
