Hi Guys,
I've been experimenting with a variation of the half-tail. This one has proofed quite robust.
Here's how its done:
1) Comb your hair straight back.
2) Grab the hair which is above the ear on the SIDE of the head ONLY, leave the hair on top. You can 'scoop' this hair with a comb easily.
3) Tie the hair you've gathered at the back from either side and use it like a headband to hold the rest of the hair back.
The photo illustrates what I mean better than I can explain it. Its much more comfortable than the regular half tail and I suspect less damaging to your hair as very little of the hair has to be tied back and its very tempting to tie a half-tail very tight. This in contrast is loose and comfortable.
It seems quite robust too as I've survived getting windswept during lunch and it still looks OK. You can also see the natural wavyness of my hair in the photo.

The half tail looks good done this way. However the full tail also shows what excellent well cared for hair you have.

I have been using that variation for awhile now and I agree that it is the most functional and comfortable way to wear my hair "down", well most of it anyway. The photo is from this past March.
Looks excellent, Sorted. I think I like that way best out of the two tails. Also, I had a thought myself, take it for what you will... I actually think that when your hair has those waves and curls at the ends that it looks its best! I know you and many others would prefer to wear it straight, but in my opinion I think the waves are part of what makes your hair look cool. Anyway, just a thought. Keep up the good work!
I love that look! Makes me think of a style I'd see in "Lords of the Ring." The typical ponytail, by comparison, seems overly restricted (meaning that as seen from a person's frontside, such a style conceals length so much that I sometimes wonder whether the wearer even likes long hair) and kind of boring.

I use the half tail very often. It works to keep the hair out of my face when I am doing something rather active but don't want to put my hair all up. Nice look.
