Hey guys,
I'm starting to think now maybe my hair doesn't really grow that fast, this is why:
I've just reached the 10 month mark, I started with 1/8th of an inch, or a few millimetres of hair, and now my bangs are 1 centimetre past my bottom lip when I pull them straight. I'm afraid to measure it with a ruler though, just incase I come out with a short measurment. I know for a fact that my hair is longer than 6 inches though, 6 inches is to the tip of my nose. And I have a high hairline, which is about 1 centimetre above 'normal'. I guess I'm just trying to feel better, but can anyone tell me does my hair grow faster than average? Where should my bangs reach nowc for the average person at the 10 months stage?
Everything I've read around here states that you can only expect to grow six inches in a year and you're only at 10 months, right? According to this your hair grows faster than average. Let go of the time thing though, it's not a race it's a lifestyle. I'm sure everyone here knows the longest hair in the world is on the head of a man and he started growing it before I did so I'm not competing. He wears it under a turban too and that's not for me. Keep it long and rock on. Bruin
Hmm, yea, I agree that I think I'm treating my hair like it's a race against time to get it long. I thought my hair grew about 1 inch a month. I'm sure it's not 1 inch now, but close. I'm prbably being greedy now, asking for 12 inches in one year, and I realise that.
But thamks for the post! And your hair is to die for, really!:)
Hair around the edges of your hairline tends to grow more slowly than the rest of the hair, so you can find that the bangs might not be as long as other parts of your hair. After 10 months, you hair should be atleast 5 inches long. If your hair is longer than 6 inches then you are enjoying a good growth rate.
If you say your hair is now past your bottom lip and its 6 inches to the tip of your nose. Then your bangs should measure 7.5+ inches easily, which means your hair growth rate is exceptional.

Wow, I really didn't think of all this, I know it's stupid, but it's much better to hear this off other people. I feel that every month, I was trying too hard to 'make' my hair grow fast, like an inch. I was really working hard, for example, almost everytime I had a spare moment, my hair growth rate was on my mind. I'm almost obsessed by it! I aim to walk a few miles a day, and If I work up a sweat, then I feel that's good as it may mean more blood is reaching my folicles and possibly a growth spurt or something. I think that as my hair is wavy, it appears much shorter than below lip length. At the moment, without using any sort of straightener, I can get my hair, when parted, to hang halfway between my eyes and my nose. I think I'm going to try and 'let go' a bit over the next few months. A wolfeyes is my gorwing partner, I think it's natural for me to aim to keep up with him, but I guess I never will. I'm just thankful for my faster than avergae rate of growth.
Thanks a lot for the fast reply:)
Wow, you're right, the hair at the top of my head is about 10 inches long!!!!

Hey man,
Don't stress about it - your hair looks good and over 6 inches is good for the time you've been growing. I know our hair is roughly the same length and mine is 8 inches after 9 months, so I think we've made some pretty damn good progress.
I think my growth has slowed a little - probably because I've hardly been sleeping the past couple of months - lots of stress.
But I'm happy with my progress. Just saw myself on tv today and was actually happier than I thought I'd be at how my hair looked.
Anyway, don't let the time thing get you down - we'll get there soon, and I'm not gonna let you get depressed by it - you're my growing buddy :D lol

Haha yea, your hair has made some incredible progress!!!
Sorry to hear that man, hope things speed up for you.
Wow, TV? Are you famous?
Lol, aww, thanks man, yea, it is getting me down, you're right there, but I guess I could be a lot worse off.
Thanks for the speedy reply, too:)
No problem, dude.
I wouldn't say I'm famous - we were recording a rehearsal for the Northern Ireland Assembly today (political stuff) and I was doing sound and so had to be recorded reading the scr ipt to do a proper sound and camera check. It's only broadcasted within Stormont building so I'll not be recognised in the street or anything.
Also working on a film with a friend of mine, in which I play a demon, but I'm not going to act that part til my hair's shoulder length at least :)
Keep your chin up bro!

I'm fancying a career move... What do you need to get into TV/Film Production? I've a background in Creative Media (Web Design) & Technology, but also an eye for detail with logistics and continuity.
What are my chances?
Well, your chances are great, since you are enthusiastic and have valuable skills.
However, you will also have to be willing to be abused - in media, when you begin your career, you will be walked over all the time - it's the only way to gain the experience that takes you to the top.
Just don't let being people's b*tch become your profession.
My advice would be to start applying to different media companies (no matter how small) to gain a little ground experience in camerawork and editing, meanwhile you can apply to productions companies as a trainee position - they may take you on for small jobs, where you will pretty much just watch the work (and if you're lucky, get paid a little too).
When you're confident enough in an area eg. lighting, sound, small camera jobs, you can then apply for more responsible positions where you won't have to be an understudy...
Basically, you'll need to start as a dogsbody and just do stuff for everyone, while learning the stuff.
I didn't even get paid for the first 5 months I worked, but then because I had learned stuff, I was offered a paid position.
Actually, I was paid for graphics work, which is always useful to them, so if you can do that it's a good start.
And from what I've found out from the guys I work with, that's pretty much the way it goes in media.
If I can help at all, just let me know :)

You seem to be over-worrying a little. I just measured my bangs and they are 8-9 inches, while hair further along my scalp is at least 11 inches long, so as Sorted said there's different measurements. I have the problem of not knowing for sure when my last shave-cut was, and also not knowing how much I had trimmed off that one time. I would guess 13 months. So for someone 3 months behind me, your growth rate (if the 7.5 inches is right) seems great.
Matt
I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who replied and eased my worries quite a lot. Today, I had the courage to pick up the ruler, and measure my bangs. I've got a measurment of 7.7 inches! That really surprised me though. So I'm about 2 inches behind where I should be if my hair grew 1 inch a month. I feel MUCH better right now. What I was starting to worry about, though, is when some guys post their 1 year progress pics, and their hair reaches the same length as mine. I sort of think, well, I must grow slightly faster than average, because I'm at 10 months, and they are at 12. But now that I've actually found out how much inches of hair I've got there:), it's a huge relief. I guess some might have started with an inch of hair or something befre they started growing. I really look forward to Cristallized Fate's 1 year progress pics, keep growing man:) Thanks all!
If. you. brush. it. it. will. grow.
Patience is a virtue my friend.
*points at Vincent* I think it'd probably even grow if you didn't brush it.
*grin*
