People has often asked me this questions.
in my case, Im a musician, and I feel long hair will just complete my style. I see it almost as an inspiration, a goal that I feel I have to achieve. I know this kinda sounds pretty deep, but sometimes I feel that long hair is just as much as part of me as it is to my music.
Besides.. long hair just plain ROCKS!
what about you..
i guess i just thinks really cool. im into all kind of music, especially alternative, and dethmetal... so i do a lot of head bangin. long hair really completes that. plus... i just think it looks cool... and all the "female attraction" ;)
...long hair feels like freedom. Freedom to express who I am. Long hair makes me feel like an individual, free from societal contraints. It sends a message that I have courage to not conform to the masses. I find that I also feel more confident and that I am "me". I myself am also a musician and I've taken martial arts, so I don't know how much of an influence those attributes are for the long hair. Perhaps musicians like long hair since musicians tend to not conform to society and typically have creative looks, desiring to stand out from the crowd (especially when on stage), and the hair signifies all that. The martial artist typically has a sense of freedom and confidence...feelings also felt by having long hair. Don't know. Guess I'm getting pretty deep too!! :)
originally I probably started growing because I am a big metal head. But not I actually like the look more then any other hairstyle I have had and want to see how long I can grow it.
Having long hair has been a totally personal pleasure that has been surprising on many levels of appreciation. I now look at other men and women through a different eye and see a deeper beauty. I have an understanding of how much effort some people put into their hair care. And, through the close-knit community of this board (arent we just a delightful group !?), Ive come to realize that the longhair experience goes so much further than appearance; from social commentary, to sexuality, to independence and for some, a spiritual commitment.
Most of all, I enjoy the way my hair looks and feels. I hope to keep this ride going Thanks to all for being here and sharing. I enjoy having my morning coffee and evening tea with you !!
What you said is so true dude *handshake* :-)

Nice hair man!!!
My identity which I consciously built for myself in my teen, thruout my "growth". A simple taste for long hair has grown into a deeply anchored identity.
I'm almost 17 and I've been growing my hair for about 10 months, and the last time I had a haircut I said that's it..no more short hair...I couldn't even imagine cutting my hair short now.
Steven
You don't need a reason to keep your hair the way God made it. In my opinion, the real question would be if you cut your hair, why did you cut it?
"In my opinion, the real question would be if you cut your hair, why did you cut it?"
Right, actually WHY do people cut their hair? I mean cut off or not giving it a chance to get longer. This question is not only for men but there are a lot of women who keep their hair short for no real reason when you ask them you don't get a logic anwer to it....
Many reasons. It was in style ever so many years ago. I rode a motorcycle. I was into progressive rock. I was into the hippie ethos (still am). Recreational chemicals!! (Least said). Plus being told to get a haircut made me want to grow it because I am bloody minded!
Now it's back in style again, but it has been in and out more than once. I don't have a bike now (not with an engine, anyway!), but I wish I did. Most of my rock idols are either dead, or cut their hair, or are ever so old.
But I'm still the same person, and I've had long hair for more than 30 years. I can't imagine having short hair. I would look like someone else.
I was brought up in an American Indian culture and long hair was a small, but very prevalent part of that culture. The basic belief is that everything the Creator gave the Indian remains sacred. For example, the body, along with nature and the earth, denotes spirituality. Hair is considered a gift from the Creator; it embodies the strength needed to endure difficult times. In essence, if an Indian's hair is removed, his life is drained of all energy. Indian religion is an integral part of my life, and as such, it is inseparable from my spiritual health. Not only is my outward appearance important, my long hair for an example, but equally important is my every thought, every word and every deed. Each one of us must go through the inner transformation of realizing the relationship with the whole of Creation.
Additionally, I was very close to my best friend, also an Indian, throughout our childhood and teenage years. We both had long hair, as it was a part of our beliefs and what were involved in. He died in a very violent accident just before his 18th birthday and I never got to see him again or even say good-bye to him. So in addition to my Indian Beliefs, I keep my hair long in memory of him.
Finally, I just like the way it looks and feels. It may not look good to other people, but it looks good to ME, and I'm the one that has to try and be happy in this life. I don't obsess with it... I don't even style or gel it. I wash it, comb it and whatever else happens to it during the course of my day, is the way it ends up for that day.
I have posted the same question short time ago but I can't find it anymore. Well, my hair means a LOT to me, its my identity and a part of my personality. I have almost the same hair for almost 25 years, I have tried some styles though but the length never changed much. I will have the same hair even when I'm 80 LOL have you notice that all older women have ONLY short hair, well I will be a an exception then.
I have mentioned before on this board a woman of 70+ I saw at a conference where most of the speakers were older women with short hair wearing formal (skirt) suits. This woman had an almost white braid down to her jeans, and I can remember not only her appearance, very striking, but also what she said, which was more sense than all of the other speakers put together.
Let's hear it for 80 year old longhairs of the future!
