i have fairly straight hair that is a little longer than shoulder-length and isnt to thin or to thick. Id like to add some wave to it and i was wondering if with a Body Perm i could achieve this?
You can, but watch out for the frizzies. Setting your hair on jumbo rollers after washing it will do the trick, but most guys would consider that way too "feminine" an activity.
I have straight hair as well and have two "Zoto" body perms a year and I love the results. Make sure someone that is well versed and trained in perms does it.

Any kind of permanent wave is VERY damaging to hair. Something to think about if you want to grow it long.
Body perms are done on the largest rods for perms, they create a mild wave and fall out quite quickly. In the old days perms were hard on hair but now days they are fine. I get a loose curl perm 3 times a year. every 4 months and its a bit culry the first month but I love it. It makes my hair so much easier to handle and it looks great. I say go for it. I would use a blend of purple and white rods to make it last for 4 months.

People have some many different kind of hair that the fact that perms work well for some doesn't necessarily mean they will work as well for you. Personally, I wouldn't risk damage from a perm in order to get not too much of a change in how my hair looks. I'd suggest you try rollers as someone suggested. No reason at all why guys shouldn't use them if they give you the style you want. Probably the main reason they might be considered feminine is because so few guys even have hair long enough to use them.
I had a perm myself in the 80's and I liked it but it does put damage to your hair. I do like straigt hair on men most so just keep it this way :-) You can easy add some wave to your hair by using an iron, thats works great for my hair and you don't risk damage when you also use some product to get the curls better in. Just a thought...
