Uhhh I think my sisters dog gave me fleas. The reason why I think so is b/c she gets on my lap all the time and sleeps in bed with me under the covers near my shoulder. But anyway it feels like stuff biting my scalp. I know that it isn't lice b/c I keep my hair clean and all. How would I go about killing those little shits oops excuse my language lol but itching every few seconds is getting annoying and I don't think I would want to go out in public and scratch my head constantly people will think that I have head lice. Ahhhhh it's really bugging me. Please help!! I would really appreciate it.
Thanks and later,
Mark
Most fleas on dogs are in fact cat fleas. The best way of dealing with them is to give the dog a monthly Program tablet which doesn't kill fleas directly, but makes them unable to reproduce, so they soon die out.
Until you get rid of the fleas on the dog, you'll have to make sure you sleep alone, wash and disinfect all your bedding, and you could try a more direct treatment - smells awful, but is effective.
That way, you'll keep one jump ahead of the enemy.
Eating raw garlic may get the fleas and other bugs off of you. To avoid painfully burning your stomach lining DO NOT eat it on an empty stomach but with food. This works for me. It keeps lice, fleas, and even dust mites away. I have never found even one dust mite on my body since I started eating raw garlic. Absalom
I've never heard of this before. How much do you eat? Did you use to have a dust mite problem? How do you know? Those things are very small.
Hi Victor, I eat several cloves per day. According to a 300 power photo showing a dust mite which was 3 inches long in the photo, dust mites are about 1/100 of an inch long. You should be able to see them with a 10 power eye loupe in which case they will appear to be 1/10 of an inch long. I have searched my pillow and bedding and my person with 10 power (and higher) magnification and have never found a dust mite crawling around. As common as they are supposed to be I would have found many if I was infested with them. Absalom
Would taking garlic capsules be a tastier substitute???

That's an interesting point. I take 4 garlic capsules a day. We have half a dozen cats and I never get bothered by fleas.
Keeping your hair clean will not make you resistant to nits - get someone to check your scalp - particularly the crown - for little white balls (eggs) or little black creatures (the nits).
The eggs will be attached to the base of the hair strand.
They're simple enough to get rid of if this is the case - special shampoo does the trick :)

Actually, the nit is the egg. That's where the term nitpicking comes from, because to get rid of the lice, you need to get rid of the nits. The nits are glued to the hair shaft about a cm away from the scalp.
Lice are getting resistant to the lice shampoos. A few years ago, there was an epidemic at my daughters' school. I went through a lot of lice shampoo of different brands to try to get rid of them. When it didn't work, I tried this experiment:
I took a live louse and put it in a small container, like a tube cap. Then I covered it in the concentrated lice shampoo and left it for the amount of time specified by the instructions. The louse was completely submerged in concentrated lice shampoo. After the required time, the louse was just as energetic as ever.
Every once in a while you hear of cases where mothers get rid of the lice on their children using gasoline, occasionally with devastating results if the gasoline ignites. At the school I went to in Guatemala, all the students were treated for a lice epidemic with kerosene.
In my experience, the best treatment is daily grooming to remove the nits until the problem is gone.
Another treatment that supposedly works well is to cover the scalp with Vaseline. This is effective, but then you have the problem of removing the Vaseline. This turns into a sort of "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly" scenario. You apply the Vaseline to get rid of the lice. Then apply peanut butter to get rid of the Vaseline. Then use shampoo to get rid of the peanut butter.
Lice usually are not painful, so the story about the fleas may have some merit, particularly if the dog is known to have fleas.
I suggest you see a doctor or community health nurse. They will examine your head and determine what, if any, infestation is present. It may even been an unrelated infection. If it is fleas, lice, or other parasites follow their instructions to the letter. For example, they may prescribe a 6-week treatment program for you, any pets, and your environment. The parasites will seem to be long gone by the end of the first week but keep with the program for the full time.
P.S.: I had fleas once a long time ago. Everywhere I went to get help I was told "humans don't get fleas".
Anyone who thinks people don't get fleas should read up on the bubonic plague.

I know what you mean!
My dog and I had fleas twice in the last year!
I hate these ugly little creatures!
But I got a very good shampoo for both of us and we got rid of them very fast! Unfortunately I forgot the name :-(
My dog also likes to sleep in my bed, and so we always share the same parasites:-)
I think I'll try to post a pic of him
If it were fleas, you would feel them crawling on your scalp. I know.
Until my mother moved and took her dog, fleas were common throughout the year. I have a cat who sleeps on my head. She also grooms my hair if I have hairspray in it, or if it's wet, but that's another story. LOL
Whenever it was time to apply more frontline I'd inadvertantly end up with a flea making it's way off of her and into my hair. They never bit, but I could feel it making it's way through my hair. I'd swish my hair around like mad until it was out, and apply frontline to all my cats the next day.
Fleas actually prefer pets with fur to us. Animals have a warmer body temperature. If a flea gets on you, it is purely accidental.
This, according to my english teacher, is the shortest poem on record. I don't remember the author.
