I posted about a week ago but it didn't get much responce, so i'll try rephrasing my question.
I now have medium length hair, it goes down to around my chin (front and back), which is pretty much the length i wanted it, but i have no idea how to make it look good! I kinda assumed it'd just grow into looking cool, instead it just looks like i need a haircut.
Can anybody suggest some tips to style my hair!? Brushing seems to not have much effect, washing makes it looks shiny but even more messy (in the get-a-haircut way, not the isn't-he-a-rebel way), and the slight curl just makes it look really effeminate. Oh, and I tried tying it all back and my girlfriend refused to be seen in public with me. :-P
Other than cutting the whole thing off i have no idea what to do with it, was i just not designed for long hair???

p.s. incase it's relevent, i have kinda thick hair and it's pretty unmanagable. Hair wax / gel was virtually useless, which is part of the reason i decided to grow long in the first place.
I think everybody was designed for long hair. The longer it gets, the more you'll be able to do things with it. If gel isn't doing the trick then maybe try a bandana. You're at a difficult stage that will try your patience and if you can hold out long enough to tie it back into a tail... well, you'll know why they say patience is a virtue.
About your girl... if she doesn't like your long hair then you'll be needing to sort out your priorities soon! Just remember to always be true to yourself. You'll attract people with similar interests only by becoming the person you were meant to be and not because of who others want you to be. Maybe show her some pics posted around here so she can see what your hair could look like.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.
