Do any of you guys use flat irons or straightening irons on your hair?
My girlfriend just used hers on my hair and it is amazing. So smooth and non frizzy. It makes it really soft and nice. Just thought I would pass this on and see if anyone else uses this?
Be very careful! Longterm use of high-heat appliances on the hair will cause permanant damage. You won't get as much damage with occasional use (a couple of times a month).
I use one, and its been a godsend as I've dealt with the awkward stage. To minimize damage, the key is to get an iron that has solid ceramic plates, not just metal plates with a ceramic coating.

Honestly, im scared to use anything that produces heat on my hair. I dont want any more damage.
I use a flat iron on the ends of my hair. I also had my hair permed to make it straight. I don't care for curly hair.
Before I use an iron, I put a protectant in my hair, a "silk infuser," whatever that is. It actually evaporates off my hair as I use the iron. According to my hairstylist, it protects my hair from the heat of the iron. I don't use the iron everyday, maybe every other day. I use an iron with the metal heating elements covered in ceramic. This is not the optimal setup, as osmeone else pointed out.
Personally, I love the way my hair looks after using the iron. So far, I don't notice any damage to my hair, but I have oily hair anyway. Maybe this protects my hair from drying out?
