wut is jojoba oil?
Jojoba Oil is a natural oil which is used as a hair conditioner as it is generally regarded as the one product which most closely resembles the hair's own natural oils.
It smoothes and conditions hair and is generally very well thought of. Its not overly expensive and only a small amount is required for great results.
Sorted.
Hi, sorry to be pedantic but its not really an oil, its composed of liquid wax esters, so technically its not a oil : )
Jojoba oil is oil from the seeds of the jojoba plant. It's not composed of any wax or anything. You take the seeds from the jojoba shrub, press it, and out comes a yellow oil, almost like vegetable oil you use for cooking.
I don't know where you got your information, but it's wrong. Maybe you looked at a product that contained jojoba oil rather than the oil itself. I don't know. But jojoba oil is just that...oil! In fact, it's very much like sebum, the oil secreted by our heads naturally. It's better though, since using it can actually get rid of too much sebum on your head.
It's a great thing to use. The American Indians used it for not only hair, but for skin, bruises, scars, etc. For us longhairs, it brings the pH balance of our hair to what it is supposed to be.
It's quite a remarkable product. And like someone else said, it takes very little of it to get results. In fact, use as little as you can.
Actually, I've come across numerous sites that support what Ste said: that jojoba oil's molecular structure differs from that of other vegetable oils, technically classifying it as a wax that's liquid at room temperature. Here's a site that gets really technical about it: http://www.desertwhale.com/jojoba/jojobaMain.html
Regardless of whether it's really an oil or really a wax, the stuff is remarkable. It's helped my dry, curly, thick hair tremendously, plus I use it on my skin and it's helped control oil production.
Cheers,
Jeremy
That's very interesting.
Have you ever seen the shrub itself? I have. I was with a Navajo friend back in the 90s who actually showed me the shrub and had me basically squeeze the seed. The oil came right out. I remeber it looking and feeling like Wesson (or any other vegetable) oil.
What does it take to make it "wax"? Freezing it?
I have a difficult time thinking of it as a wax. It's so liquid and "oily", for lack of a better word.
I won't argue the point though. If it's a wax, it's a wax. However...from all I've read, seen, and experienced...it's the best thing you can do for your hair AND your skin, wax or not!
I wonder if there's any FDA info on it. Hmmmm.
Ehh, enough people enjoy it that they'll probably make it a scheduled substance here soon. Either that or say that it causes cancer ;)

Actually, jojoba is a liquid waxy ester, as is the sebum produced by our skin. Here are some links: http://www.armchair.com/warp/jojoba1.html

(This is the jojoba I use.)

Well, unless I'm right! Hehehehe! I guess I should have studied some more and not gone off of personal experience.
Thanks for the info! As I stated in another post, I've felt the "wax" straight from the seed. It's very "oily" and liquid, not at all like I would think of a wax.
Heh, you had me there. Glad to be able to provide info. Here's a way to view waxes and oils in similar light. Both harden when cold, right (or most do)? In that way, both provide moisture protective coating or barriers. Both feel greasy, too, so it makes sense that some of them would be related. :-)

You had me going there too. The oooOOOoooh sounds a bit like, wellll...you know....an orgasm!
I thought maybe I just had that effect on you!
Hahahahahaha! Just kidding!
Thanks for the info and for enlightening me on jojoba.
Really? Heck, they call it Jojoba Oil... I just logically assumed... well, if you say so mate, I'm not an expert on this stuff, I just know what I read here on the board. :-)

...Is at it again!:-)
