Does anyone have any experience on this subject. I want to join a health club but they require that you wear one. Thanks.

By all means wear a swim cap to protect your hair!
Chlorine in pool water can damage your hair.
Go to your local sport shop, and buy *two* silicone rubber
swim caps. Companies like Speedo, Arena, and others
make them. Do not buy the latex rubber caps. They
can stick and bind to your hair, and tear out hair strands
when you take the cap off.
---
Wet your hair first. Then put a small rubber band for
hair (you can get them at WalMart) on your ponytail.
Put the cap on your head, and roll the ponytail up
behind the back of your head and cap. Tuck the little
hair bund up in back of your head as far as you can.
---
That's it!
---
The reason for buying two caps is to have one as
a spare and to alternate with. Caps should be rinsed
out in clear water and then air dried. When dry, they
should be dusted with baby power to prevent sticking.
---
Shampoo and condition your hair after swimming,
and rinse with cold water before towel drying.
Allow it to air dry after toweling--never use a hair dryer.
---
Hope this answers your question. All the swimmers
with long hair that I know (both men and women)
follow this regimen, and they have great hair!
Good luck.

Excellent advice, Sugarcane. The only thing I might add is that I have gotten excellent results by mounting the wet cap over the top of an old shampoo (or similar) plastic bottle after use. This holds the insides apart and prevents them sticking together, and allows air circulation to prevent mildew growth.
