Last night I attended my first rock concert -- Pearl Jam -- as a longhair, and it felt good to jump around with my hair flying everywhere. (I must admit, however, that I'm not a rocker and probably looked like a goofball trying to fit in with everyone jumping up and down with the beat. But hey...it was fun!)
I was disappointed that all the Pearl Jam guys now have short hair, but there were many, many longhairs in the audience.
Biggest surprise of the evening: A guest appearance by actor Tim Robbins ("Mystic River," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Bull Durham," etc.), who sang with the guys on one song. And I didn't realize how tall that guy is...6'5"!
Cheers,
Jeremy (who's incredibly unfocused at work today)
So how did the "Head/Hair Banger" experience feel?
Congrats on the milestone.
It felt great. Like I said, I'm a newbie and I'm sure it showed. And I'm not a Pearl Jam fan, but they put on a great show. One electric set, then a sit-down more acoustic set, then they closed it with another plugged-in set. Great energy in the auditorium!
Cheers,
JBC
Glad you enjoyed the show! I'm sure you'll be going to more shows in the future!
I'm a concert veteran myself. If I had all the $$$ spent on tickets through the years, I could buy myself a nice car!
I first saw Pearl Jam back when the guys still had their long hair. They put on a great show then, and they put on a great show now.
I have a lot of respect for that band in the way they fought TicketBa$tard years ago and have openly spoken of corruption in the radio business. Unfortunately, their willingness to discuss the corruption and greed has them banned from Clear Channel stations, and that's why you can't hear them on the radio anymore.
Anyway, thanks for sharing! Concerts are fun, aren't they?
Hahaha, but what's a nice car when compared to the memories of many excellent concerts!?
You make a very valid point. You're right!
It's not how you look that's important but how you feel. Fun is the best thing and the more you have of it the better. I wish I knew why my favorite bands have all cut their hair short. IMO when a band loses their hair it seems like a part of their music dies along with it. Don't get me wrong, I still love Metallica, Motley Crue, Def Lep... but I prefer the older music when they had the hair. Is there something to this? Am I the only one thinking that way?

No, you aren't. I agree with you wholeheartedly.
To me, a rock band without long hair is like a guitar without strings. It's still musical, but it just doesn't sound the same!
I know what you mean. Although, as far as Metallica goes, did you see James Hetfield's hair just before he cut it all off? He had more than half of his head shaved, and then that one long part. So, maybe as far as he goes it was good he cut his hair (but bad that he kept cutting it!).
How did Tim Robbins do?
He did pretty well for an actor-turned-rocker. I did some investigating online and found out he's written and performed songs for a couple of his movies, so it's not a new hat for him.
Wow, you're sooo lucky - a Pearl Jam concert, with guest appearances... and getting to take your long hair for a test drive.
Some day I'll go see them in concert. They're one of the few bands on my 'must see' list. Hope you really enjoyed it... did they play your song (They have a song called Jeremy, not sure if you know that).

"Jeremy" is one of the few Pearl Jam songs I know, and as much as I tried to will them to do it, they didn't. :-(
Who cares if they did "Jeremy", or "Even Flow", or "Alive"? Who cares if they did any of their best-known songs?
The real question is....
Did they do "The Hair Growin' Blues"???????
Hahahahahahahahaha!
(Uh, to understand this post, you have to read a thread below.)
