Hey there,
Well I ordered Jojoba off that site you recomended- Hobacare. I am anxious to get it and try it out! Just a few questions...
What makes it so good? Is there any reason why you find it better than any other type of jojoba oil?
And also, this is the kind of stuff that I can use instead of a conditioner, correct? Like, I will wash my hair with shampoo, get out of the shower, and put the Jojoba in my damp hair and let it dry that way naturally. That will work to help smooth it out and reduce volume, correct?
Thanks a lot!
Sid
Hi Sid!
Well, it came very highly recommended by two individuals whose hair care advice I consider valuable, and also, I find the web site very informative. My first bottle was a gift, and I've simply lived it. I also have gone thru several other bottles of pure jojoba that are of excellent quality, but I think the Hobacare is less expensive for fantastic quality.
Well, hold on a bit. I wouldn't quit conditioners, no. Shampoo & rinse like normal, and then condition & rinse like normal. After you dry off, then detangle carefully with a comb. Some folks say not to apply oil when hair is wet or damp, but others swear by it, and I can't see why not to. I usually wait until dry because then I can add oil bit-by-bit, watching to make sure I don't overdo it. Too much oil can look greasy fast, and that's not really necessary. Applying oil when your hair is still wet can make it difficult to to discern how much is too much. Make sense?
I gather that your hair is wavy/fluffy? Well, jojoba probably won't flatten your whole head of hair unless you make it very oily. However, it should help calm frizzies, if that's your hair's current problem. You probably could use just a drop or two/three to start out, spreading it over your palms, then applying it just to the outsides of your hair. Adjust how much you use by what seems to work. Even if the jojoba doesn't solve frizz problems, it will be very, very good for your hair, and if you don't overdo it, it simply washes out with the next shampoo.
Something else to keep in mind, if your concern is volume: growing your hair steadily longer and longer will help a lot with this. The very weight of your hair's extra length tends to pull out wave and body. So... perhaps try growing longer than neck length...;-)
You're welcome. Hope I've helped, and I hope the jojoba is excellent for you!

Hey Lady G,
Thanks for the well thought out response. Just one more Q about the whole volume thingy...
Well, on a good schedule, when my hair isn't too built up, this is how I like it: When I wash and condition one day, and then the next I just wash it out with water, this day of non shampoo-washing is how I like my hair the best. It's nice and soft and feels healthy and smooth on my head. It isn't like too flat and greasy against my head but it isn't overly puffy either.
So I figured using Jojoba would help to make my hair like it is on those days. I figured this because on those days, it's the natural scalp oil on my hair that relaxes it and makes it nice. And since Jojoba is so close in structure to natural scalp oil, I figured it would get the job done like that.
What do you think?
This sounds like a good game plan to me. What you're experiencing is a very common phenomenon, the Day 2 "best" hair day that most people report, at least as I've read on the various long hair boards for the past 7 years. They state that Day 1 is too dry with fly-away hair that seems rougher, frizzy, and too pouffy. Sounds like you have normal hair (not too greasy, not too dry). With normal hair, even Day 3 is pretty good. My own hair is oily, so my best day is Day 1. Day 2 is okay, but Day 3 is visibly oily, so I have to wear it in an updo, 'cuz it's super shiny and stringy.
Sounds like you're trying to achieve Day 2 on Day 1, too, and that makes sense. The jojoba sounds like a logical step, you're right. Just don't use too much, or your Day 2 could get too greasy. I hope it works!
