I'm jealous of those of you who have been at this awhile... I have the majorly wavy hair ... and starting to get into the stage where - well it looks like crap.
I work in a fairly conservative financial company - and while I do tech work - so they aren't overly concerned - are there any tricks that I can do to hide/help during this time.
I'm guessing since my hair is quite wavy - that this period will be quite a bit longer than that of those who have straight hair...
Am I stuck wearing hats for the next year, or is there something that can help with the "hair goes everywhere" effect...
(lesse if these images work)
oh wow, my hair is almost exactly as yours, (Ive been growing for 4 months) and you're right.. our awckward stage is much longer, but after it, it will look awesome! its funny cause when I look at your hair is how mine looks exactly after I take a bath and let it dry without using any cream or anything on the hair. Ive had long hair before, and the only way I could come up to hide my hair was wearing a cap all day, the bad thing is you get sick of wearing it for so many months every day, but good thing is that the cap straightens your hair for some reason.. so its kinda cool. specially when you have a bit longer hair.
my other recommendation which have great results but could mess up your hair health a bit, is using gel, thats what I use now from time to time, but it comes to a time where your hair starts to get pretty think and long and you have to apply way too much gel... then it could be quite dangerous to hair health.
Im still looking for other solutions, so if anyone else knows, please tell us.
I certainly hope so ... I'm getting a wee bit discouraged since almost every I know - says I should get it cut, and its sooo damned unmanagable. Just goes everywhere. But I'm far from giving in - just trying to figure out how to live with it better.
Well I really can't do a baseball cap - well at least not at work. Hrm, wonder what else I can use...
Your hair looks great actually!
Well you could try Gel, but there's another option that will give you similar results, from my experience at least.
One thing that I have found to work somewhat for my hair (as it's at a very "curl out" stage, is to re-apply just a little conditioner after my shower and leave it in. Put on a cap or bandanna and let it dry as much as possible, then brushing it out slowly and carefully. Now I'm not sure what effect this would have for anyone else, but for me it helps to weigh the hair down and straighten it out some. Though I must recommend you to use a clarifier (apple sider viniger or whatever) to remove the buildup this will cause, at least once a week.
Before, I used watered down gel, but even that would make my hair feel brittle, so now I use Aussie's "Tangle Forgotten" as a leave in.
This may not work for you, but you never know.
Good luck with finding the answer that works best for you and keep growing! :D
Be well!
From the looks of your picture, I'd think you could start coaxing the hair at the back of your neck into a wee ponytail sometime very soon.
I don't think it looks like crap. I think it looks rather sophistacated/mature. Goes with you rather well.
Love,
Kiat T>
I started out from a layer cut so I had hair at many different lengths. The awkward phase can be maddening but it's just something you have to put up with. I used to spray my hair down with some strong hair spray. As soon as I would get out of my car to walk into work, a gust of wind would come along and my hair would go everywhere and just look like hell. There was nothing I could do. Eventually, the day came when I could pony it. Now, it's here to stay. Don't look back
I have to agree with Kiat. You're looks great. It's not easy tell yourself because you're used to looking at it everyday so an outside opinion is needed. That's where we come in. Other than the gel or hairspray mentioned there's not much to do with it until it'll fit into a ponytail. The test is to reach that point. I have faith that you can do it though. If you need any support please feel free to ask. Best of luck to you.

For now while hair is wet/damp, use a comb or brush to turn "flippy" ends under; let dry. Later, as hair gets longer/heavier, the wave pattern will turn ends under. Patience.
Hi Magna
I used to have to gel my hair when it was at that stage. I too have wavy hair and it behaved in exactly the same manner. My only solution was to wet it, then dry it so it looked good, then I'd use a spray spritz to hold it in place. The only problem with doing this is, while it looks good, it dries rock hard and is quite difficult to wash out.
Great to have you on the board...

Ahh yes, of course the problem I have is that as it drys - it gets all spriffy again! ;-D Although if my hair looks anything like what you have - I'd be majorly happy. Your hair looks fantastic...
Nice website! You have quite the setup. I usually do my hobbiest stuff on the remixing / postprod side (usually from live takes of various friends' shows). Its fun - and a good excuse to have toys...
Thanks for the info!!
Hi Magna
Thanks for the compliments. Glad you enjoyed my studio. I need to update the photos though because since then I have another synth and three guitars!
As for my hair, I like it most of the time but sometimes, specially of late it seems to have been going frizzy and dry on the ends which it hadn't used to do. I sometimes wish, although not dead straight, that it was just a little bit less wavy than it is.
Good luck with your hairgrowing and may you enjoy the many milestones you have ahead of you!

...but it is not curly.
From the back of your head, anyone can tell that you have extremely
thick and perhaps even stubborn hair.
You seem to be entering an awkward phase, and things
might get very though for you. But
if you focus on the pleasure of GROWing your hair, you
will appreciate the experience every step of the way.
I have no crystal ball, but I think your hair will look amazing
once it reaches about 9 inches.
After that, every inch will be another 'treasure'...
and a gift from mother nature.
Good luck on your Journey!
