hi. ive been growing my hair out for the last few months. but lately the ends are looking very frizzy. are these split ends?
how should i go about corecting this problem? conditioner? trims??
Hello it does sound like you have split ends. If they are you will more than likely have to get them trimmed. Or they will split even more damaging your hair more.
Conditioner won't do any good for ends that are already damaged. Split ends are irrepairable most people think they can be fixed but they really can't be. Once you find out if they are split ends you may need to get them trimmed and then start using conditioner when you wash your hair if it gets tangled or dry.
I hope this helps you out.
Good luck,
Mark
Thanks Mark for giving this advice. I would have said the same. Conditioner is just so far far important for the health of the hair.
I usually get my hair trimmed when I have split ends or dried out ends, so I agree with getting your hair trimmed.
I don't think it's too likely that you have split-ends after only a few months. It might just be your hair's own unique personality or that you're entering the dreaded awkward stage. Have someone else take a look at it if you can't tell for sure. They'll look like a snake's tongue if they're split and I don't know of a way to repair them either. I use shampoo & conditioner for dry & damaged hair myself. Not that my hair is dry & damaged, just as a precaution in case it gets that way.
If you only have a few split-ends then I would recommend just trimming off the damaged areas. This is extremely tedious and you need to decide whether or not it's worth your time, depending on your hair goal. Take care.

'Very frizzy' ends are not necessarily 'split ends.'
If you look at end of individual hairs and
the very end of that hair shaft splits into 2 or more parts,
then you are definitely looking at a split end.
But if you are talking about the 'end' of your hair looking frizzy--in general--
then it could be plain old frizzy hair.
A tiny trim can do away with both problems, but be very
careful about getting one.
I haven't touch my hair in 32 months and so far, I have
no split ends.
Use conditioner after each and every shampoo.
Take care and blessings on your Journey.
Really?
I thought split ends were an inevitability after before even 2 years of growing. On a little sidenote, I'm 10 months into growing, as you already know, and I've only come accross 1 split end, where the end splits into two different ways. But I infact, inflicted the damage. There was a blob of what I think was 'protein' in my hair, a result on going a little wild on the leave in. I tried to pull the blob off, like I have done before, only the hair snapped. It snapped about half a centimetre from the tip of my bangs. Arghhh. I know a trim isn't needed.
In four months, the very ends of my hair will be 3 years old
and there are absolutely NO split ends. In fact, my hair has never looked better!
The ONLY difference I can see is that the last few inches are a bit
lighter in color than the rest of my hair.
I have ALWAYS 'babied' my hair by always using a conditioner
after shampooing.
I also do 'conditioner washes'...that is, using only a conditioner to wash my hair
between my regular shampooings.
I never use a blow dryer. Instead, I squeeze my hair inside
a bath towel
and then allow it to air dry.
When sleeping, I always keep my hair restrained with at LEAST 2 hair ties.
Hope the above info is of some help to you.
Blessings & good luck on your Journey!
No, not with Pledge. There is a technique whereby you, or your hairtaker (caretaker - hairtaker. Get it? HA!) take about 10 -15 strands of hair at the ends, pull them taught and gently twist them around 3 to 4 times. If you have split ends this will make them very evident. At this point, take your VERY sharp scissors and snip the portion of hair that is sticking out. If you have a lot of split ends, you could take hours doing this. Spreading it out over several days is less taxing. When you are finished, look at the floor and you will see a very fine "dusting" of hair. If it looks like more than dust, you are cutting off too much.
Good tip. I've used of this technique but didn't know it was called dusting. I'm not sure if Alex's hair is long enough to try this one out yet. Good to keep in mind for later though :-)
